Is the Ipod touch worth it?

For my birthday I'm thinking about getting an Ipod touch, but I want to know if it is worth it.

I also have a few questions about it,

1: is there a lock feature? I don't want it to start up or something without knowing if it is in my pocket.

2: Is the screen not that sensitive? Would it not break if I drop it a few feet or something?

3: Do all the apps work on both the iPhone and the touch? Or is it that some work on both, and some for the iPhone?

4: Does the touch screen work well? Calibration wise and stuff

5: Is it worth the money?

1. Yes there is a lock feature. It's the same slide to unlock as the iPhone.

2. My friend dropped his once from about 4 feet and the screen cracked.

3. Some apps are only iPhone compatible I believe, but most work on both.

4. Touch screen is one of the most accurate touch screens around on devices at this time.

Ya know, its interesting that you actually bring this up because I have been considering getting myself an iPod touch as well (even tho I cant stand most of Apple stuff). I did some research and found the iPod touch features guide here: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iPod_touch_Features_Guide.pdf

The passcode lock info is under settings/general/passcode lock.

When it comes to the sensitivity of the screen, I would highly suggest getting some kind of rubber protection around the iPod touch, as I have heard that this one company called Otterbox makes awesome iPod and iPhone cases. Most used by the military, they cost just as much as the other typical cases, but can prob take more of a beating. Now if you really care bout your screen, then I highly suggest you get some kind of pouch cases that can easily fit on your waist belt. Im sure the majority of people will probably go for the rubber cases as most of my friends have rubber cases for their iPhones.

When it comes to the applications, most applications will work on both the iPhone and iPod touch. There are articles out there to help you out if you get into an issue with an application tho.

For the touch screen, I personally have never had an issue. However, overtime the touch screen will begin to have issues. The casual consumer needs to remember that our current technology has processors and memory that can only go so fast. Theres alot of people out there that get way too upset or angry because their device doesn't work fast enough. On the touch screen, if it starts to slow down, the best suggestion is to either stop what you're doing with the device or restart if necessary.

In the area of the worth for the iPhone or iPod touch, it really just depends. The biggest question is how often will you the device? For the iPhone, more than likely it will be worth the price due to the fact that its so inexpensive to the the 8gb for the 3G($99 as opposed to like $300 when it first came out), but the 3G S will cost ya $199 for the 16gb and $299 for the 32gb. I recently looked on Amazon.com for their iPod touches and noticed that they actually had the 1st and 2nd generation touches, which is sweet. If you want to pay regular retail for the iPod touch, be prepared to pay a lil more up front for them, as they are $100 more than the iPhone, but in the long run, its alot cheaper, seeing as how you have to have a plan with the iPhone and the 3G connection with AT&T costs ya $30 a month, whereas you just need a wi-fi spot for the iPod touch (which is free).

Its worth it somewhat.

1. Depends on how many songs you have, its definitely better than the iPod Nano now because of the storage boost. If you can fit all your songs on the touch with room to spare then go for it.

2. Its definitely not as good as the iPhone because of the internet, some apps that are really great need internet so you would onlly be able to use it with wifi on the touch.

3. I have both iPhone 3g and iTouch, gave the iTouch to my dad after i found the iPhone....the itouch was cool while it lasted and i got it when it came out so it was awesome being one of the first people to have it.

4. The iTouch is an all around media player and is absolutely worth it if your only looking for one. Otherwise i say either iPhone or the new Zune HD. iPhone is probably out of the question though cuz of the contract and all that.
Zune HD isn't as good as the touch even though it has some better features like OLED screen and i like the design/brushed aluminum

Okay so then iTouch it is. And yes it should work with any wifi connection as long as you input the correct password it will connect and be functional.
The itouch 3rd generation is also CRAZY FASTT, it is insane just like the iPhone 3GS so thats a major plus. You will be able to run any app pretty much and everything will be super smooth. iTouch and iPhone have the best touch screens so far and theres almost no denying that.

GO FOR THE iTOUCH!!!!

mine gets scratched form sitting in my backpack...

then i dropped it from about 4 feet and it broke, the whole durability thing is definitely an issue with the itouch

Maybe so. But it is easily cracked by impacts.

1: Yes, By default it has a slide lock, and you can also use a code lock if you want.

2: I have a hard case for mine, It comes off every time I drop it, which is about 2 times a week, but it saves my itouch every time. Also a screen protector will protect the screen from scratches and if applied correctly will work flawlessly. It basically comes down to of you take care of it, it will be fine, if you dont well then it will break. Any kind of personal media player you buy will break if dropped to much.

3: Yes, All apps are compatible with both the iphone and itouch, by that I mean they both can be installed on, with the exception of apps that require GPS. Some apps also have features that use the microphone, but the apps will still be able to be used with a mic or without one(if the apps sole purpose is not sound recording). The itouch can connect to any wireless network, secure or unsecure and can connect to hidden networks as well.

4: The touch screen requires no calibration, it is multitouch and can be used right out of the box and works perfectly.

5: From the apple store, I think no to be honest although if you have an older ipod even one that is broken you can get 10% off your ipod purchase. I have bought all my Ipods from Ebay and Craigslist, new and old, and every single one I have bought has worked well. As far as the iphone goes the phone yes is worth it, the crap overpriced service you get from at&t is not.

Its definitely scratchable lol no doubt about it. Its definitely breakable too if you don't take care of it. Invisible Shield makes the thing unscratchable and its actually pretty sick.

All you need to do is take care of it and try not dropping it from like 5 ft in the air.....i've dropped it a couple of times while standing up and nothing happened to it, got a dent on the backside but thats about it and some knicks and scratches here and there. Just try to take care of it and you'll be fine, everything breaks if you consistantly drop it and such.

1: There is an idle feature, where if you don't use it for a while, it'll go into a sleep kind of mode, and you just have to press a button on top to unlock/wake it. Honestly, you can just turn it off if you don't want it to do stuff in your pocket, it only takes about 10 seconds or less to start up.

2: The screen works fine for me, you don't have to beat it up to press on something. If you have a decent case (not a silicone but a leather one) on it, I don't think it would crack, or be damaged too much.

3: Most of the apps I've seen that don't work with the itouch is the ones that have vibrations in them or are iphone specific.

4: Like said in 2, the screen works fine for me, and I haven't experienced any lag on it.

5: Totally worth the money. I suggest getting a refurbished one if you want to save 50 bucks. I got a refurbished 8 gig and it works great for me.

Yep, you can either leave it without a code (so you just have to turn it on and slide a bar) or add a 4-digit password.

As for dropping it, I haven't dropped it at all (and don't plan on doing it), but I believe it'll last.

Microphone-dependent apps don't work, like the one where you can have the app detect a song. Others that aren't dependent on it will work.

Very well, and it only responds to a finger, or elbow You can barely touch it and have it respond.

5: Is it worth the money?
I've loved mine, and nothing bad has happened to it, except for a few freezes here and there, but nothing catastrophic.

As long as you have Wi-fi and know the password to it you can access the internet.

I've had mine since June, got it free with my macbook pro.

General thoughts, not going to rehash the questions that have been answered.

1. The screen can scratch. The guy at the apple store told me to forget about a screen protector, took his keys and went to town on his iphone, and that convinced me not to get a screen protector. I have a slight (1cm) scratch on mine, but it doesn't always show, and doesn't bother me.

2. Games - I jailbroke mine and "tried" all of the big name (read: price) games, and nothing held my attention. The gaming aspect, imo, is terrible. Any game that has a four way touchpad is completely unplayable. Everything else feel underdeveloped. I have only enjoyed the simple stuff, such as chess, mancala, sudoku, and one tower defense game. The rest have been "meh."

3. Apps - I love the non-game apps. I have my email, twitter, facebook, sports scores, rss feeds, alarm clock, to-do lists, and my calendar in my pocket. It's great. It makes the whole thing worth it to me. I read all of my news on it, and I never do a #2 without it!

4. Media Player - It does nothing more, nothing less than any other media player. If you just need something to play music and do nothing else, look elsewhere.

5. General Durability - I've dropped mine, but I have a hard case on it, no cracks or anything like that. I keep mine in my jean's pocket most of the day, haven't had any issues.

6. App Compatibility - It works with just about every iphone app that I've ever tried. The exception is that some apps require internet connectivity, so those apps are limited to when you are on wifi (obviously). It doesn't have a built in mic or GPS, it does have bluetooth, and it does have an external speaker.

7. Web - The internet works very well on the ipod. No Flash, but you can watch youtube. Things obviously don't load as fast as they do on a computer, but for looking something up, or killing 15 minutes in between class, it works very nicely.

8. Is it Worth the $? - I say, only if you have a need for the "productivity" apps. I would advise against buying it for the games, as I've found them to get stale fast. Also, it isn't anything special in the music playing department. It does surf the web at more than acceptable speeds, and provide great productivity functionality.

the biggest storage size is 64gb and freaking expensive as hell which wont do for me i wont pay 400 for something that cant even carry half of my music
