ASUS Killer Board....Overkill?

What the hell do you need 6 dimm slots for? If youre blowing $400 on a mobo, youre not gonna cheap out & get 6x1g mem sticks. is 12+ g mem needed for anything now or coming out in the next few years? Imma go with a not that I am aware of on that one. To me its more of a look how awesome the numbers are on my computer then look at the actual noticable performance I get.

You MUST have missed the 7 PCIe 2.0 x16 slots.... ;)

I did skip past that, lol

3 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (@ x16 or x8)
3 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (@ x8)
1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (@ x16)
*4 x PCIe 2.0 x16 or 7 x PCIe 2.0 ( 6:@x8, 1:@x16)

Ok: triple sli, sound card, vid capture card, what goes in the other 2 slots? esata cards? heh

Hundred dollar bills.

It makes for an excellent foldng@home rig. Also could be used for workstations.

@ Stinky Wizzleteats, many programs can make use of 12GB's of RAM. First off, if you are using SSD's, you want to disable page filing. To do this you want at least 6GB's. Then, if oyu are doing MANY layer photoshop, you'll want as high as 12 GB's. Also CAD programs, and video editing. Most people don't need 12GB's, but there is a good number of people who do.

No offense to you, but from a tech standpoint, EVGA can take it's business to the Mariana Trench and suck a dozen barnacles. ASUS/A-Bit/MSI or it's a waste of $$. (I might give a little leeway to their GPU line, but the MoBo market for them is FINISHED here at my shop.)

Are there any hardcore EVGA users out there?

Hmm..maybe this should be another thread....(DONE)

The original post's MoBo can handle 24gigs of memory, and I know a friend (client) that's ACTUALLY thinking his current 12gig triple-channel array isn't cutting it. Granted, he's a Mac-dork and wants his PC to crank graphics rendering to "Mac Proprietary Standards". I told him he's fine, but he's willing to spend the $$.

So...I'm thinking that board, 24 Gigs of mem, and Quad 5970 GPUs. He gave me an $8,000 spending limit and basically said, "Make it out perform any Mac!"

So, now, think it's a bit overkill?

To the person that was asking about why there are 6 RAM slots... DDR3... triple channel... 3 sticks of ram for it to work properly... ;) so you get 6 2GB sticks and run 12 GB.... or be a baller and get 6 4GB for 24GB...

Silly humans. This is obviously what you need to build a supercomputer http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813151205 256GB of RAM and 4x quadcore processors. *sigh*

They actually offer a motherboard that offers four quad cores and an additional sister board for four more quad cores... by the same manufacturer there.

As for the ASUS board, Core i7 @ 4.0ghz + 24gb DDR3 1600Mhz RAM, and dual 5970s and you can play any game maxed out at any resolution. 7 PCIe slots FTW. Its why I love ASUS, the best boards out there.

I'll never argue with that logic! ASUS is what I use and I swear by them!

Mind a link? I'd love to make some client buy that and try it out! (last mass-multi-proc system was also my first and only Fatherboard array.)
