New Comp

Hey guys, just a quick update:

So for Christmas my family has planned to go to Mexico. This basically means that I get my stuff early and yeah. So I've made my choice, and am going with a PC.

Here is the two that I am looking at:

Comp 1
Comp 2

I want your opinions, but I don't want 'Building it is better'. I have considered it, but am not going that way.


The other think is that I was thinking about making my old (very old XD) Vista computer into a CS:S server. Again, what are your thoughts on this?

Well if you really don't want to build your own comp 2 looks pretty good, has a faster cpu, both have the same graphics card, comp 2 is upgradable to 16gb ram if you need it. It has a smaller hdd but I know I wouldn't need 1tb space. Comp 1 does come with windows 7 but windows vista is good as long as you have a good computer.

If I didn't want to build one i would probably get Comp 2.
 
Comp 2 is better since you don't want to build something. And yet Hp computers from my experience have had their share problems. But if you are running out of time definitely comp 2.
 
Comp 2 is better, but you might want to consider something like this. It doesn't have as much RAM as the other 2 but you dont really need 8GB with windows 7, and it has a much better graphic card that can run any game on maxed settings.
 
Comp 2 is better but the gfx and processor are kinda bad for 8Gb RAM its ridicilous,it's your choice but 2nd one is better.

Your internet bandwidth is your biggest concern. Unless you have 64kbps upload PER PLAYER SLOT available, you're hosed. meaning that for a decent server (12+ players) you'll need about 1Mbps of dedicated bandwidth.

NOTE: Other considerations include Dynamic IP address and connection TIER. If you're thinking of a LAN server for friends at the house, disregard all above.

CS:S Server run on a Windows machine: FAIL. Debian Linux...well ANY *nix system will suit you well. Windows OS overhead is RIDICULOUS to say the least. I'd be more than happy to help you set up Debian on your machine if you think you have the bandwidth!

Were it my choice with the money, Newegg's deal is superb. I would obviously prefer a custom-build, but I understand your reluctance.

Hewlitt Packard machines.....*CRINGE* Honestly, I wouldn't use HP machines if they paid me to. Period. Sorry to be so harsh, but as useless as they have become I can't pull punches here.

If given a choice of ONLY your two choices, comp #2 hands-down.

Out of those two computer get COMP 2........but i honestly for your sake, wouldn't recommend buying either of those.

Like torzak said, get one like the iBuypower he showed, its cheaper, and faster all around. The Graphics card is probably the most important thing you should worry about along with the CPU. The iBuypower has a 4870 which will absolutely cream the graphics cards in the two computers you showed us.

This is also a beastly build for only $40 more than the ones you showed and the GRAPHICS CARD ON THIS IS AMAZING!!!! if you do your research you will understand......this is the 2nd fastest single graphics card on the market, single chip of course but still its just about let me see.....5th fastest card on the market now out of single and dual-chip cards i believe.

And out of curiosity, how come you don't want to build your own?
And the comp that PewPew linked is quite amazing.

Good comp but ive heard that the Athlon II CPUs are slower then the Phenoms because they dont have L3 cache. I could be wrong but you might want to research it if you get that comp.

If I did build it, there would be shipping and a lot of waiting. Then after if the parts don't match or if there is something wrong, they I will need to send it back and so on.

Also, both comps are at my local Future Shop, that's why I showed them.

Well, as everyone said Comp #2's the way to go but have you considered buying a refurbished computer? They are much much cheaper and refurbished doesn't necessarily mean it's "used" just means over-stocked but comes with used peripherals (who uses them anyway?)

If he goes that path fine.......but don't get the 9800gtx+, i recommend getting the 5770 or 5750 which is faster and about the same price, a bit more but only like $20 i think.
 
Sadly, for some reason, I did not get the rig tonight. I might get it in the next week, but I don't know when.

question.......why do you insist on getting one of those 2 HP computers??? they are honestly overpriced for the specs they give and won't give you much gaming performance or overall performance in the end.......

Are you buying in-store or ordering them online?? because if your ordering, theres so many better options out there for same price.

If he doesn't wanna build one I suggest getting a refurbished computer. It's the way to go trust me.
 
Have fun in Mexico and with your new PC your may choose.
