The year is almost up. The last movie coming up this year I really have any interest in is Avatar but that's a given considering the hype and history of the movie, as well as the fact that James Cameron has been disappointingly absent for quite a few years now, not counting the documentaries and stuff he's done recently. So its time to ask the question; what is your pick for best film this year? And while you are at it, what's the worst flick you've seen this year?
For awhile, my top contender was Inglorious Basterds (And let it be said that its still high up there) but then "Thirst" sprung forth and stole my heart. Maybe I'm biased since I love Chan-Wook Park and vampires so much, and I'm sick and tired of all these damn VINOs. (A VINO is a "Vampire in name only.") Regardless, I bloody love Thirst and I think of the few films I've been lucky to see this year its easily my favourite.
As far as the worst... Antichrist. Boring, pretentious, gross and offensive. Lars Von Trier needs to stop making movies and leave Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg's genitals very well alone. This idiotic film prides itself in thinking that it is an allegory on human nature and the loss of a child due to parental ignorance, when really all it is is a emo porn flick with its head so far up its ass that Lars Von Trier thinks that just because it's controversial makes it "Art." It also sends annoyingly crossed signals, somehow managing to be both misogynistic AND misandrogynistic as well, maybe Von Trier is asexual its the only logical way I can imagine someone being sexist both ways.
I didn't get to see as many pictures this year as I wanted to and probably missed a lot, so tell us what your top and bottom picks of this year are.
