Graphics card choice.

id spend the extra money on a 5850.........newer tech, better support, faster, better overclocking potential.

Overclockersclub managed to get an XFX 5850 all the way up to 1000mhz core and 1200mhz on the memory. This is far past the Catalyst Control Driver limit in ATI overdrive but it may be because they Crossfired with a 5870 enabling the option to overclock to those speeds. It's pretty amazing though that the 5850 managed to get an overclock that high, XFX seems to be doing well now in the ATI sector.
Read it for yourself

yes but i won't be running a 5870 with it. however i think i will still get the 5850 just because yes, i want to OC it and i'll easily be able to get to 5870 speeds, as well as the newer driver support will up performance, and then i should be set on a vid card for a couple years, adding a second one if needed in the future.

maybe u can do bios mod so you can overclock past 5870 speeds if yours is capable. The XFX are looking really promising for overclocks right now.

Its still gonna be hard to get 5870 speeds, might need an aftermarket cooler or something.

But like just think about it, a 5850 @ 1000mhz core 1200mhz memory.......thats just freaking epic right there, im pretty sure its faster than a 5870 at those speeds or atleast close to the same performance.

I only ran COD4 and Crysis on medium, because I wanted at least 60 FPS in both. And there is a problem with the 4870 that clocks it lower than what you have set in CCC, but I'm not sure how to fix it. As for the heat problems, sounds like there isn't enough cool air getting into the case.

Their must have been a problem somewhere. Because, again, my 8800gt averaged over 100fps in COD4 (at the same res), and a 4870 is alot better.

And he has pretty good cooling (the cpu idles at 35 with stock, which is decent)

I'm talking about how I ran it at med settings in campaign, which is more graphically complex. Multilayer I ran high

what the hell. where do you live? cause thats my local store as well, tho i assume you're in the toronto area cause ya thats where most of the stock is at. but ya im thinking bout getting the 4890 instead of the 5850 myself, but i dunno...i don't want to have to get another vid card in another year

also when more drivers come out for the 5850 you'll start to see that thing take off in performance

Live in toronto.

i can vouche for the 9800.. mmm runs everything smooth.. its my bfs.. im stuck ona 7600 :(
