I was reading a bunch of hardware review sites and they were benchmarking the radeon 5970. That card is a beast. I am such an nvidia fanboy but the numbers that card were posting were insane.

The card has 2GB of ddr5 onboard memory and 2 seperate GPU's on one chip. This thing was absolutely decimating the gtx 295 for a sense of comparison.

TO THE POINT:

When they did benchmarking on Crysis the 5970 didn't even come close to fully maxing out the game. I think this pretty much means that the people at Crytek are just really bad at making video games. I am so tired of people making excuses for them. They just suck. If a 5970 can't do it, nothing can.
 
I tried the Crysis demo...I have an 8660 Nvidia card, 3 GB of ram, and a quad-core 2.2 GHZ comp. If I max it, the game slows to...uh...5 fps :(
 
It's not that they suck it's that they went waaay overboard in graphics. Crysis is a pretty decent game for those who can run it.

That excuse doesn't work anymore. There are games that look just as good now and they can run way more efficiently.
 
Without Crysis, the GPU war wouldn't be so intense, haha.


I agree that the Crytek engine is a fail, because Far Cry 2 (for instance) looks almost as good, but can run 30 times more efficient, without people spending a crap load of money and ruining their good hardware.

It's a shame, ALOT of people buy these expensive cards just to attempt to max this game out, it's really, REALLY not worth it at all.
 
Oh, and in those benchmarks, it's a nice difference of frames but Nvidia can easily match that.
 
Crysis is optimized for nVidia so its pretty much the only came that the 295 beats the 5870

Well, the 5000's are a generation ahead of the 200's, so it's obvious who the winner was going to be.

And Crytek doesn't suck at making games, they just suck at programming them :P

They have benchmarks of 2x5970 on Crysis if you wanted to know........on youtube but the guy isn't running 1920x1080, just maxed out 1680x1050, there are benchmarks of 2x5970 out there though
 
All of those benchmarks where it can make out either weren't at the highest resolution or the AA was turned all the way down.
 
Crytek has issues

I recently traded my EVGA GTX 285 for an XFX HD 5870, and the ATI board murdered the nvidia one. However, crysis still sucks as far as fps is concerned. I don't know why or what it is, but they have issues. I've had an ATI Radeon 9700 pro, then went to the 9800 pro, then nvidia finally pulled ahead and has been until the 5870 came out. I guess we'll see when the 300 series boards come out. However, ATI has always been able to do a better job in cooling and power consumption.
 
I think a 5970 in a Crossfire setup with a Nvidia 295 for a PhysX card would do the trick :D (Also would cost you around 2k).

It's true though, the coding for Crysis is terrible. If you make a game that can't be run with current or next-gen hardware, then you're either doing something wrong or did some time travel. I read somewhere (forgot the link) that Crysis would be optimum for hardware in 2020.

But I think we should wait until Q2 2010 until Fermi comes out. Fermi is supposed to be BLAZING fast.
 
im sure by 2020 games will look better then crysis. But crysis 2 is in devlopment which is sopose to be better optmized
