Go into Catalyst Control Center and unlock Overdrive. Then move the sliders. Couldn't get more easy than that to make a stable overclock.

yup....turn up fan speed too

I've gotten mine max of around 740mhz core and 1150mhz memory but i don't run it that high.

I just run it around 720mhz core and 1130mhz memory, im also using a thermaltake duorb but i think i got a bad card somewhat, when i had stock HSF i couldn't get like 15mhz our of anything, was lucky i got this high by just changing to an aftermarket cooler. I've seen people get higher on stock -.- so thats y i think i got a bad card somewhat.

I plan to upgrade soon anyway, not enough horsepower.

But yea, just use CCC and ati overdrive and you will be good to go, do the auto-tune and then fine tune that after its done to get the best.

download 3dmark and overclock your card, start running 3dmark to see if there are any artifacts etc and keep an eye on temps. rinse/repeat until you get basically the highest overclock you can with it being stable as well as not frying the card

You can also set fan on automatic(atleast... i can with my HD 4870 1GB).
And then overclock it. HD 48XX are very good to overclock.
