So I've decided to build my own PC this year and just ordered all of the parts. I planned on buying a Radeon 4850 but a lot of them are around $120 on a lot of sites like amazon. And newegg doesn't have any. Before I go out and try to find one on eBay is there any other cards I should look into that might even perform better than the 4850? I'd spend around $100-120 range.

Yeah I'm planning on it but I just wanted to see what someone thought. I need to at least find a new 4850 though for a decent price. :x

The 4850/4870 are still considerably faster than the 5770 or 5750.

people don't understand tho, right now the benchmarks (well when it FIRST came out) are low for the 5000 series due to poor driver support right now, they will get better by like 10% or more for benchmarks when newer and improved drivers come out. also they will hold an advantage in benchmarks with dx11 games

When will they actually start taking advantage of DX11? That will pretty much make my decision. And when will new drivers be guaranteed? I guess you can't really answer that though. :x
If I got the Radeon 5750 I was thinking about getting this one for $140.

as for better driver support, that constantly comes. hell i still update my drivers for my 8600 GT - so its never ending, and as time goes on it will get better and better. i was also going to get a 5750 but now that my budget is higher im springing for a 5850. in any case i don't think the added performance for the 5X70 cards are worth the added price. that card will be killer though
edit: just thought i'd post this, with my 5850 im getting is one of the first dx11 games to be released which is dirt2. as per THIS article you can see the differences, and as per THIS article you can see the performance hits. for being the second released dx11 game i think these numbers and image qualities are extremely promising for dx11.
in the first article they sum up that it depends on the user, but they do not really think the gain in image quality justifies the loss of performance yet, however this is again only the second dx11 game released up to this point.
dx11 will surely be more utilized in the future, making for a huge image difference (i notice it pretty heavily in dirt2 already) and with again added driver support etc we will see the performance loss become less and less, and as it stated...its already MUCH less than the loss that accompanied dx10 with its release.

If I wasn't building a computer now I probably would...
the performance loss is going from dx9 to dx11, so its only going to be seen if you play dx11 games with dx11 enabled instead of playing those dx11 games in dx9. but this is obvious.
so yes the 5750 is always better than a 4850 regardless of what games you play, but also has the option of playing dx11 games in dx11 whereas the 4850 does not
