Hey guys,
I was just wondering if it would be possible to set an lcd monitor with a standard resolution to widescreen resolution and add black areas at the top and bottom to give the illusion if a widesreen monitor without dishing out the money. BTW, I prefer the look of widescreen over 1280x1024.
Thanks for all of your help

Its recommended that you use your monitors optimal resolution, things might look funky when you use a different resolution.

If you can find drivers that give you that option when you go to configure your resolution options, then yes. But, widescreen monitors are a lot less expensive these days. I did a quick google search and found some 16:10 monitors for around $150 from some good vendors.

If you want the look, you could set your desktop image to a picture with black bars @ top and bottom but this would not prevent applications from being dragged into that area and used.

It would just be simpler to find a wide screen monitor. Vudu is right, they have come down in price and adding the black bars would be adding blinders to your screen and then you could lose important icons or files.

+1..

Not really worth the hassle.

I have an LG 19" I bought for $200 last year, now the same monitor is $120, which is a steal because this thing is awesome.
