i got my ati radeon 4670 installed. for some reason, the fan never kicks on to 100 percent. i have tried changing the controls manually with the ccc software that came with the card, nothing. the fan runs but only at a very low rate. my frame rates are about the same as the 7600gt that i replaced :(

i am wondering if my motherboard might be fried now. i remember having some power outages at home before my 7600gt started acting up before i tried to overclock it. i wonder if something could have happended to the power to my motherboard.

could my 300w psu be the problem. the card documenation says 400w is needed but i was told 300w should be fine. there is nothing plugged into my computer except two internal hard drives, mouse, keyboard and modem wire.

halp please!

i monitor the cards temperature and it never goes above 70c what is wrong with it? halp! lol.

There doesn't look to be anything wrong with your card or fan. Your fan should be running at 50% stock. If you want to increase it you have to check 2 boxes:

  1. Enable ATI Overdrive
  2. Enable Manual Fan Control

Then you can move the slider to adjust your fan speed.

If your frame rate is about the same you may have vertical sync turned on.

Ok if there were power surges as long as your computer has a surge protector that it is plugged into it should be fine. If your psu isn't the required wattage, then it probably isn't going to be able to handle the load.

that is what is confusing to me. when i enable manual fan control and then move it to 100% the fan does not engage at 100%. with my old 7600gt, when i told it to go to 100% it would kick on and i could hear it working at 100%, the fan on this card runs at a constant that i would guess could be no more than 25% if that.

i ran a stress test last night on the card with a video card stability software tester i downloaded from the freestone group. the fan finally kicked on after the card reached 70c during the extended stress test. i guess the card is not gonna kick its fan into high gear unless it gets above 70c. at least i know it works now :)

also did a benchmark test and it scored a 215 the first time and 220 the second time. don't know what this means exactly but the numbers were purdy.

still kinda bugs me that i can't max the fan out manually via the ccc software but meh...

now to work on those wonky framerates in tf2

*read most of the reviews on newegg about this card and apparently most people can't adjust the fan setting either so i feel better now. at least it isn't just me :)

i do like the autotune feature that let's you safely overclock the card automatically. i can't complain about this card. it is quieter than my last card but it didn't give me the boost in framerates that i thought i would get out of it.
