Hey guys, I heard people here are super smart about PC stuff, and I also heard that building a PC from parts is A LOT cheaper than buying one from ibuypower or from best buy (seeing as I will be buying this PC by myself, only 16 next summer). I know about negative things about what to buy to complete a new PC that will run games well and all that. Editing videos and such. So, my question to you guys is, what are the ESSENTIALS for building a PC, and what other things should I get that won't break the nonexistent bank?

essentials would probably be
PSU - more important than most think
Motherboard
CPU
Memory

and GPU
and Case
and ram
and dvd drive
oh yea and operating system

definitely PSU and mobo - you can always upgrade off of those. memory/gpu/cpu can always be upgraded however you need the corresponding or prerequisite pieces for those, like a PSU and mobo

Essentials? For a computer to post and boot you need a power supply, motherboard, cpu, ram, , hard drive, and video card(integrated counts). You also need a disc drive if you plan to install an OS(which you'll also have to buy). You'll probably want a case too.

From there you can get faster CPU's, more RAM at higher frequencies with tighter timings, a faster video card, and an SSD. It all depends on your budget.

If you want to know which parts in particular, then wait 'till right before you but it.

You don't NEED a case though! :scared:

Nope, you can save money by running open air. Perfect for folding farms and the like.

You don't even need that much; I just use plastic shelves.

Case
Motherboard
Processor
Hard Drive
Video Card
Sound Card
Memory
Power Supply
Mouse
Keyboard
Moniter
Cd Drive
Operating System
Headset

That should about do... If you want to post up how much you are wanting to spend I will try and build you one on newegg for you to look at. Just give me a price and tell me what games you play and I will do my best. Also tell me if you already have anything of the above that I wouldnt need to add.

Case-maybe mid-full tower
PSU to run everything, get one with high amps(people tend to overlook that)
Motherboard
CPU
GPU
Ram
OS
disk drive to install stuff such as an OS, games n the sort and Also Harddrives
Sound card for sound =p
and mouse n keyboard
though u wanna make sure when buying this stuff that it'll fit/work on the motherboard and stuff and if your psu will fit ect...stuff like that

Well, I am not sure what my budget is, but I am going to apply for a job as soon as I turn 16. So if I'm getting paid minimum wage it would probably ...um do the math real quick. About 175 dollars a month after Uncle Sam takes some of it. So I'm going to be looking for a PC for about 500 dollars overall. Maybe 400. But Ill wait until I have the money to have you guys look up stuff seeing as I really don't anything about building a PC and the specifics.
Thanks for all the feedback!

Pfft.. You don't even need shelves.. Just get some dry wall screws and mount it to your wall.. lol

I know I want a quad core processor, I want to see and feel a major difference in the pc.

With a budget of 400-450 that might be difficult. But who knows, the Propus would probably drop in price a little or maybe there will be a new good and cheap quad.

Reflex I'm older than you so WHO YOU CALLIN' KID? and that picture was taking in 2008 (Time stamp fail) :P and technically that's a cardboard open case. But yeah I just want something that will get me more then 15 fps in Counter Strike Source.
