Mic Volume too low

In the Windows 7 Recording Devices tab, when I speak their are no bars. I raise my voice a little and then one bar appears. I raise my voice above speaking voice and 2 bars appear. I scream the loudest I possibly can and it goes up to full.

When I try to use my mic on MSN it doesn't pick up my voice unless I scream into it.

When I play games they pick up my voice, most likely because they pick up anything it hears once the mic button is pressed.

I have my mic volume at max and +30dB boost.

I have the latest version of Realtek High Definition Audio Manager R2.39

It sounds like you microphone may have a defect how long have you used it and in what condition is it?

You opened up the realtek mixer? There are more settings in there, independent of Windows.

also.. in the recording devices tab right click and go to properties..
there is a levels tab which has the slider for volume for the mic.. there is also a mic boost (if your mic supports it)

You mean the Realtek HD Audio Manager? The Microphone tab says the same thing. I have Mic at 100, and +30 dB.

Yea have noise suppression active on the microphone. Try turning that off i have the same program for my laptop.

I think that helped a tiny tiny bit, I don't have to raise my tone as much to get it to pick my voice up, but I still have to raise it, and it still only goes 1-3 bars depending on the elevation of my voice(unless I scream).

Edit: Scratch that.

Seems its sticking at 2 bars now (it's picking p sound from the living room) in which case I don't even have to say anything 'cause it's always picking up noise. When I speak it raises 1-2 bars.

Yea the way most digital sound mixers run they pick up any sound that is synced as background noise. Realtek is good dont get me wrong but if you are using a mic for gaming i would just stick the mics settings. Recording on the other hand you may want to just get a better mixing program and microphone.

The noise it picks up pretty much distorts/covers my voice since it still is really quiet so I have to put noise cancellation.
