This is not a bragging thread.. something got messed up yesterday..

I was running Folding @ Home ..

1x cpu client (large wu/advanced)
4x cpu client (small/medium wu)
1x gpu client (large wu/advanced)

all running for over 48 hours straight with my motherboards "pc probe" temp monitor running. Was averaging 64C constant. Looked at the temps yesterday after surfing the forums and the CPU temp was stuck at -20C..

So I opened up SpeedFan and it had the same -20C reading for the CPU..

So I freaked out and turned the entire thing off for 24 hours and now it's back to normal!

Has anyone ever heard of something like this happening before? lol

cpu: i7 920 nehalem 2.8ghz @ 1.2v
mobo: asus p6t6 workstation revolution

Actually yes, that has.
Whenever I first overclocked my processor, the temperature read a constant -256C or something. But to fix mine, I had to reset the BIOS.

-20 degrees o_O i call shenanigans

It's actually possible to get lower than -30C on vapor phase change cooling, unfortunately there are too many pockets where condensation can build up on the LGA 1366 socket so a block was never successfully manufactured

Just thought it was weird that my cpu temp was stuck at -20C, I thought maybe the cpu was dying or something lol but it went back to normal after letting it sit turned off for awhile so no problem I guess.. as long as it doesn't happen again!! lol

A few boffins at my school, working with IBM, squeezed 500GHz out of some chips. They were cooling the chips down to near absolute zero. I'm sure SpeedFan would throw a fit at those temps.

Yeah, you COULD dip the board w/ chip into a superconductive (not electrically conductive) liquid then sustain it in liquid nitrogen or something.. I forget what the exact method used was, I read about it on EOC a few years back.. That would be insane though..

Hm. I'm not sure if I believe this, as AMD holds the record of that for pushing a Phenom II to 6.5 or 7GHz. But definitely not 500GHz

I don't believe 500Ghz for a second. Temperature isn't the only overclocking barrier you know...

It's a bug on your motherboard, which is common.

Sometimes Speedfan says my ambient temps are -150c

the mobo detected your CSS hacks and decided to give them a test drive
