dont invest in that CPU, the original Phenom series aren't too good, not terrible and it was a decent start for AMD into the quad-core field

Wat processor do you have right now???

I advise spending the money you would into your GPU or something because if your going to upgrade your CPU, your gonna wanna upgrade into a better one, no point in investing in old tech, especially this old because it's not worth it at all..just a waste of money

put the money into your GPU

I have an AMD 64 X2 4000+ 2.1ghz CPU. It will definately bottleneck the videocard I'm getting. With that quad I could overclock to 3.0+ easily and have 4 cores instead of 2. I don't think it's that bad.

lol it may be 4 cores....but its not that good

Its worse than the Intel kentsfield cores ie. Q6600 and such by a good margin

Yes ur current cpu will probably bottleneck your GPU but still, its a waste of money to invest in that CPU even if ur current one is going to bottleneck ur GPU

If ur going to upgrade, you probably need a full upgrade or u can get another AM2 socket CPU

wat mobo do u have and wat sockets does it support??
cuz your current CPU is AM2 and the cpu ur looking at is AM2+.......im not as familiar with AMD but im guessing they are compatible with eachother because AMD's are usually like cross-compatible

this would be ur best option if ur mobo supports AM2+ as its the newest Phenom II x4 and its AM2+ this is a much better investment, fairly new and performs on part with Core 2 quads tho something like a Q9550 or something is faster clock for clock from what i remember

This is probably out of ur budget tho by a lot so i would just get ur GPU/PSU first then save some money and think about upgrading ur CPU or CPU/MOBO

Get a DX11 card. DX11 takes a lot of the stress off the CPU(and put's it on the GPU), so there will be less bottle-necking in DX11 titles, which are the future.

Remember that 3ghz on one processor is a totally different thing than 3ghz on another processor.

That phenom processor is not a good investment. For $80 you can get a really nice am3 dual core, or save an extra $50 and get a new am3 quad.

Q6600 is an amazing processor.

amd 4000+?? are you sure you have am2 socket and not 939. to upgrade cpus you'll most likely need a new mobo too
