Hey everyone!
Next week I will be ordering the last of my pc parts for my new rig!

Heres what i've got so far-

Case: Similar to this... just blue :)

Mobo: Asus M4A78T-E
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131366

PSU: COOLMAX CUL-750B
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817159111

Videocard: EVGA GTX 260
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130433

Id like to know you guy's imput on cpu's ram and possibly a new videocard. (The 260 is in my rig now and id like to crossfire in the future(might need a new psu then huh?))

The case is ehh alrite, i would personally get a Cooler master or Antec tho, but i guess that case isn't bad......i like the Cooler Master HAF 922 or the Cooler Master Scout for that price range, the Antec nine hundred two isn't bad either.

I personally am using a Cooler Master HAF 932

For the mobo, i would recommend something that does x16/x16 when you CFX or SLI, keep in mind that if u want to SLI, you will need an Nvidia chipset mobo

The GTX 260 are currently pretty expensive and will probably stay like that until the new ones come out probably tho i have seen outdated stuff become more expensive due to low supply and high demand most likely.....take for instance, the ATI 4870/4850 have stayed about the same price/risen...you used to be able to get a 4850 for $80-90 with rebate but now they go for like $130, 4870 is about the same at $140-170..all ever since the ATI 5 series came out

If you wanna get a new card, wait for the ATI 5800 series to drop in price or wait for the Nvidia Fermi cards that come out in like 2-5 months depending if Nvidia still runs into problems, expect to pay a heavy price for the Fermi tho...i doubt they will be cheap, especially during the first 2-3 quarters

the parts ive listed are ones that I already own. the case is like 5 years old, but it is modded and has 9 fans so it runs like a beast. It was part of a different build a long time ago and im gonna hold on to it for this one. The 260 I bought on sale for $150 a while back haha so I got pretty lucky. The board was an xmas gift from my dad so im kinda stuck with it lol.

What im really looking into are suggestions for the cpu and ram. sorry i should have been clearer but thanks!

haha yea....my fault i thought u were only referring to the GPU that you already had

okay so for the CPU, i recommend getting an AMD Phenom II X4 955. Buy an aftermarket cooler and overclock it as high as you can to get the best performance out of it.

For ram
Get either this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277
Its fairly cheap and its DDR3 1600

Also, your mobo can't SLI i don't think so i would just hold off and get an ATI 5800 or wait for the Fermi if you want to get a new card

Hey man thanks a bunch!

Im just curious why you went with the 955 over a 965? Im stuck between the two. The price isnt a huge deal but im thinking the 955 might be better for the money.

*shivers as he thinks of coolmax psu's*

i wouldnt trust one to run 2 gtx 260's

well for starters, id have to get to ati cards so the 260 will stay in my current rig. yeah actually my psu has been running great for 8 months now but i wouldnt put two cards on it haha. but me getting 2 radeons is gonna take a while lol

If you're on a budget get the X4 955. If you can afford a $200 processor, you should get the X4 965 (125watt). That's what I'm running, and it's one sweet processor.

This is the ram on my current rig:

That will complete a very solid rig you've got. Once you can upgrade to a better video card, you should get the 5870. It blows the pants off of the GTX 260.

Hope this helps! :)

If your going to overclock and your kinda big on that stuff like me.......get the new stepping x4 965 which goes for like $195 on newegg i think not the $185 which is the old stepping, you will get a higher OC on it over the older stepping which is a plus.

The x4 955 is a good option if your a bit tighter on money but the extra $10-20 for the 965 is worth it.

What is your budget for everything anyway?? only including CPU and RAM because im gonna guess your gonna wait to get the Radeons later on which is a good idea, get the CPU/RAM first then wait for price drops on the GPU's and get them.

right now im figuring about $400 for the cpu and ram. Extra $100 for a decent hdd for storage then down the road spending whatever it takes for a 5870 haha.

Hey guy thanks though for all the imput. you rock!

Sorry this kinda maxes out your $400 but you will get great performance out of it. The Noctua is the best air-cooler out there right now and will easily control your Phenom II x4 965 temps. I've seen people get overclocks of like 4.8ghz on a corsair H50 with insanely high temps so i expect the Noctua will let you get some narrstyyy overclocks

You do realize that you can get 4GB ram and a 965BE for less than $300. I guess if you're going for 8GB, you'll hit your $400 limit. Just something to chew on. :)

Your 24/7 ceiling will be around 3.8-4Ghz on air. That's all I've been able to manage, and I've got a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme bolted on, which has virtually identical performance results compared to the Noctua cooler.

Don't get his hopes up for that high of an overclock, especially for 24/7 stability.

I understand.........the $400 limit includes the CPU cooler

Performance on a True 120 varies, stock, the Noctua is better and it also comes with high quality fans unlike the True....if anything i can see the new Venemous-X matching up against the Noctua, the True is good but its time has past sadly :) i believe you tho, there are people out their with modded Trues and they get some pretty sick performance....but its pretty much undisputed that the Noctua is the new king as of now

Regardless of who's the king, I spent $50 on my TRUE over 2 1/2 years ago. The Noctua is $40 more. Also, in order to reach 4Ghz on a 125w 965 BE, you have to push the voltage beyond the recommended limit, and as it stands, I'm not even close to the thermal max on this processor with my TRUE bolted on. Therefore, paying an extra $20-$30 for a bigger cooler is pointless in this case.

I'll keep my TRUE. Thanks though. :)

lol okay...wasn't trying to convince you or anything :)

the only thing i don't like bout the True and Thermalrights in general is that they never come with a fan.....its pretty annoying

The Noctua isn't a bad deal though you have to admit, those fans go for $20 each pretty much so you essentially pay like $40 just for the heatsink =/
Of course it wouldn't be bad if htey did just that......would rather pick up a louder fan for like $4 that pushes more CFM...Noctua fans are quiet tho and push a good amount of air for the noise it makes which is virtually nothing

yea i like the 260 but again i only payed around 150 for it :)

im not terribly worried about getting a super overclock with this cpu. The 3.4 will run anything i throw at it now. i might bump it up to ~3.7ish just for fun but im not sure if ill go 4 just yet haha

EVGA is a great company, but when it comes to their stuff its pricey.
I was looking to see if there were cheaper options for the GTX 260 and there were.

The Zotac version seems to fly off the shelves so to say.(Even though its an online store.) It looks solid. Here is a link: Zotac GTX260

There is room to OC this card, some cards specify speeds up to 650 from the stock 576 Core.
