Hey folks,
So I'm looking for a brand new headset to put to use with my awesome on-board 7.1 hi-def audio (plus the sound card I'm getting for my birthday in a couple of months)! I need something that's VERY durable, preferably has a thick, tough cord/cable, and isn't ridiculously expensive. Am I asking for a needle in a haystack or is this plausible?

*Budget: The most I'm looking to spend is in the range of $35-$75ish
*Style/shape: Unimportant, but obviously I'm not looking for ear buds. The bigger and comfier, the better
*Features: Good audio quality for gaming (need to be able to hear footsteps, for example), and good audio quality for music (good bass, decent treble, and whatnot). 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 audio is great; HD is even better, and I'm leaning towards 7.1, but if it isn't super-high quality it isn't a deal breaker. ;D Must have a mute button/switch
*USB (Y/N?): Either, whatever'll get me the most bang for my buck
*Mic: Can be attached, can be detachable, or can be bought separately (clip-on mic, anyone?) - it doesn't matter, as long as both the headset/headphones and microphone are high quality. I do not like tabletop/stand-up mics though
*Brand: Doesn't matter, as long as it isn't some cheap-o piece of carps assembled in a third-world country or something! I'd prefer the parts to be durable and tough, especially the cord/cable
*Store-bought or online shopping: I prefer to shop online, since all the good stores in my area like Best Buy are 30 minutes away. ;/ NewEgg.com is my favorite

All input and advice is great! Feel free to put your two cents in.

Thanks a metric butt-ton,
Runo

That Plantronics set is a wee bit out of my price range; however, I've heard nothing but good things about Steelseries and Creative Labs, so I was looking at these...

I researched this a few months back and I was only able to find a few 5.1 headphones:
1. The Triton Turtle Beach as referenced by a couple of other posters
2. The Saitek Cyborg 5.1 headphones
3. The Razer Barracuda 5.1 headphones
I initially purchased the Saitek headphones. They work fairly well, but the cavity that fits over your ear is not very deep. My ears would actually rest against the speakers which becomes uncomfortable after extended gaming sessions. I ended up getting the Razer headset and have been very happy with them. The 5.1 works okay, but the speakers are literally within a couple of inches of each other on all of the models. Although you can definitely tell the difference between front and back (Very useful when someone is trying to sneak up on you and stab you in the back, LOL)
