Im sick of my old AMD, i need a good processor for about $200. I have a gygabite motherboard. Model no. is GA-MA47GM-S2. If any other info is needed just tell me.

Just keep in mind, youll probably want to do a fresh install of windows when you install the processor.

Same phenom as the one posted before, except this one is in a box .


Why would he reinstall windows? Shouldn't he just make sure his BIOS is updated?

The Phenom II X4 is good, but get the retail box, not the OEM. You get HSF, and I think a longer warranty.

And you don't need to re-install windows, but when I went from Sempron to Phenom II X3, I got blue screens 'til I re-installed, although the SECOND time I went from Sempron to Phenom II X3 (Had to downgrade temporarily), everything worked fine.

i dont think you can put windows on a flash drive.


after a little more reading you should be ok. you may need to install new drivers for your cpu but chances are you should be alright.

yeah, he can take 125 watts, the 940 is the supported list.

That would help tell us if you need a better PSU or not, or even if you should upgrade your CPU. Something else might benefit your computer more.

It depends on your motherboard if you have to re-install windows. I switched out my AMD Phenom 8650 x3 today and put a AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ in to see if it still worked. (it did =) ) I didnt have to do anything it just reset the bios and then started windows fine.
