Out of curiousity, if anyone uses any type of RAID configuration, what do you use?

RAID: 0, 1, 5, 10, etc.

Size of Hard Drives?

Type of Hard Drive?
5400 rpm
7200 rpm
10,000 rpm
15,000 rpm
SSD

Quantity of Hard Drives used?

RAID Configurations?

And why did you choose that particular configuration?

And what performance levels have you achieved with your setup?

I'm using two 400 gig, 7200 rpm Seagates on a RAID 0 Configuration for my gaming and applications. I have my OS installed on a 10,000 rpm 75 gig Western Digital drive. Both are set in a stripe configuration.

Peace!

Size of Hard Drives? 2x 250GB

Type of Hard Drive? one 5400rpm and a 7200rpm

Quantity of Hard Drives used? 2

RAID Configurations? I use RAID 0

And why did you choose that particular configuration? I thought i would try it because ive heard you get better performance with RAID 0 and I have one big hard drive now instead of two smaller ones.

And what performance levels have you achieved with your setup? I havnt checked what kind of speed increase i got by switching to RAID but I get 5.9 on the Windows 7 experience score for Hard drive.

Don't have this yet, but I am getting it with part of my income tax returns.

Size of Hard Drives? 2x 300GB
Type of Hard Drive? 15k rpm SAS
Quantity of Hard Drives used? 2
RAID Configurations? RAID 0

The only problem with my setup is going to be actually setting up RAID. I really want to do a hardware RAID so I can get maximum gain off these server hard drives but my motherboard doesn't have an FDD slot so I will have to pull some crazy hacks out of my hat and make a new windows xp install cd with the drivers included.. lol

Based on specifications this setup should increase read/write speeds 4x

I'll let ya know when it's done :D

Let's hook-up sometime in vent. I'm a RAID freak myself and maybe I can come up with a solution for you.

Peace!

If you have the room in your computer for another card, I would recommend a RAID card. Your performance will definitely improve. And you don't have to spend an arm and a leg to do so.

Peace!

Ive been interested in doing a Raid 0 configuration for a while but i have no idea how to do it or where to start!!!

These days it's probably better to get a SSD versus a raid 0 configuration. Raid 0 is slower plus if one of the hard drives die, all your data is toast. I think with falling SSD prices Raid would mainly be for servers who need data integrity assurance and for backup purposes with raid 1.

you do know that 7,200rpm and 10,000rpm drives can still write faster than ssd's even know they cant read faster.

iv not set raid on my dual HD's they work fine as they are but thats IMO

it all depends on what you use your computer for raid 1 are very common on servers because if one drive fails everything will still work with out a hitch.

and raid 0 is used a lot in music and video production when you need some pretty insane simultaneous read and write speeds.

but for just deskop use you will notice a faster boot and applications will launch faster.
