Strategy Session Thursday - Gtactix

Testing an idea...

imagelink

Hello, I want to see if you guys think this is a good idea. I posted an image which is the Baghdad map but with a grid on it. What I would like to happen is if everyone could just post names of different areas and you can refer to it using the grid numbers. Later, I can compile all the names and label the map and upload it for all to see.

Example : 11X is "statue"

I would be relying on people to actually reply with names... else this little idea will fail. If you think its a stupid idea and not worth the effort, just tell me also.

I don't expect the map to have like 50 different named locations, that would be rather unwieldy, but maybe at least 10 important locations could help a team better communicate. I think this is the main reason why people don't say where the enemy is, because they don't know how to describe where he is...

Like I said, if your opinion is that its a bad idea, just say so, don't keep quiet.

i like that grid idea only problem is we don't have a grid on the in game map so people will be forced to remember grid spots such as "4-o"
when they could just say charlie delta roof charlie echo roof or charlie bravo roof
I just learned that myself from mohawk!

notice charlie :
5 roofs
first one is charlie alpha (first roof marines see on their way from spawn to charlie )
second is charlie bravo (this is the roof with the ladder that takes you up to charlie)
third is "charlie" (middle roof with the house on top with two windows and stairs)
4th is charlie delta (this is the room on top of the "orange room")
5th one is charlie echo (is the closet roof to the insurgency and it has stairs)

No no, we won't use the grid in the game. I meant that you guys can just use the grid to tell me what the names are and where they go. Then I can make a map with just names at the correct places.

Sounds good. Downloading now. Finally, a good use for a gigantic monitor/dual screens - I can play and have this open at once! Knowing nothing about the program, or any limitation on its use either by design or by competition rules I'm going to speculate about a possible use.

In addition to having each map updated with all of the names we use (Marine and INS version plausible? Left of Street for Marines is Insurgent's Right of Street on Baghdad), we might be able to dedicate an additional member - outside the match/scrim - to update the map, showing us where the enemy is based on information we feed via Ventrillo. Using our communication to mark where enemies are, where they aren't (because we've killed them), and more. Player 1 may say "Enemy at [place]", coordinator marks it on the map for eerybody, then removes the marker when Player 2 says "Killed enemy at [place]".

Again, I don't know how it works just yet. Don't know if it's a live update - similar to the minimap in Guild Wars - or if it's static and made beforehand, to be used as a reference. Just throwing out ideas.

It's live update. But not everyone has two screens :P

An intel person is an interesting idea... But again, not everyone has 2 screens. I'm not sure how you would get it to work without that. I reckon just good in game comms is the best way to let everyone know what's happening.

Had to play with it at least once before I went to sleep. Didn't know what else to do, so I pulled up Karam and made a map of the most common spots used by both teams (as best as I could remember). I toyed with drawing arcs for LoS, but it got too crowded.

EDIT. WHOOPS. Must find a way to make a thumbnail.

sounds like a really cool idea i think that would be real time strategy (rts) which i think the game is already meant to be but not played like correctly ie the map which many people dont use "bad rpg" "bad nade"

I really like this idea i wont mind being the map man during a scrim
This will be like the radio man!
Awesome idea Ingeniusdodo

The program is a bit buggy so if you have any issues with it please ask me and i can help you or you can just go to their forms its very user friendly!

oh ok cool when ever we are in vent i can tell you all the names that i know on each map!

ok when is the first gtactic session now going to be? if nobody wants to host it i'll host it on a day there's no event taking place.

It's supposed to be today. At 8pm, but I'm not sure whose 8pm... I'm hoping central. Just stay on vent tonight supposedly...

My impression is that there is little to no interest in this topic. Unless someone says anything otherwise, I will just leave it.
