Big price. Still looks sweet.

Problem is, for that much, I can build a gaming rig or buy a laptop


So ipad is not a priority for me. Maybe when it's like $200 I'll buy one

I saw this on Gizmodo this morning and I thought the same thing. You gotta think not only about the cost to make a unit, but the money that goes into advertising, sales, the many workers that build and design these things.

your logic is not quite sound. according to you, it would make sense for apple to thus raise the price of all of their products. This does not account for the rediculous differences in pricing between the different models.

For example, if you account for advertising, lets say you add 20 dollars to the total price of each unit. This should not give apple the rationale to charge roughly double the manufacturing cost.

Hell, look at the 64gb versions. 130 dollar price difference for an additional manufacturing expense of 20 dollars. Now if that is not stealing from consumers im not sure what is.

In conclusion, I highly doubt apple spends that much more to advertise or build a 3g model as opposed to a non 3g, or a 64 gb opposed to a 32gb.

maybe iPad's markups are so $$$ because Apple is used to people giving them extraordinary amounts of money...like 100,000,000 yearly from Google?
