Chicken or Egg

Depends on ur views of how the world came to be...

Both answers are theoretically possible.. UNLESS.. you believe that evolution created the chicken... at which point.. the chicken would come first.. from another animal's egg..... (not a chicken egg til the chicken laid it) >.> *shrugs*

I guess you're right. What you just said was in Killzone's wikipedia post aswell you cheater:P

Anyway, I find it difficult to understand. The chickens lay eggs, but chickens come out of eggs. Damn... it's such a brainteaser >:|

Neither. The evolution example doesn't claim the chicken to have come first, but rather that they both came about over an extended period of time (as in, over time, the animals hatching from eggs became more like chickens - and therefore, the eggs they were laying simultaneously were to hatch into animals more like chickens. The "chicken egg" and the "chicken" becoming more like their present day states as time would pass.)

hahahaha actually this is true. atleast from a pure biological standpoint. haha

Well form that standpoint the egg would have to have come first. The original iteration of the modern day chicken would have to come from an egg.

Ok so Ummm Dinos were hatched from eggs long before chickens so...

The better question is what came first the dinosaurs or the Dino Egg

Taken from Wikipedia link which was already provided. As 80% reading this thread will never even press the link I will write here what it was saying:

  • If the egg is not necessarily of any specific type: Then it could be said that the egg came first, because other animals had been laying eggs long before chickens existed, such as the dinosaurs. In biology, egg is used as a general term in this way.
  • If only an egg that will hatch into a chicken can be considered a chicken egg: Then a re-consideration of the original question suggests: Some animal other than a chicken laid the first chicken egg which contained the first chicken. In this case the chicken egg came before the chicken. In reality, many scientific theories suggest that this would not have been a simple event. For example, the theory of punctuated equilibrium theorizes that the actual speciation of an organism from its ancestral species is usually the result of many mutations combined with new geographical surroundings, called cladogenesis.
  • If only an egg laid by a chicken can be considered a chicken egg: Then a re-consideration of the original question suggests: The first chicken (which hatched from a non-chicken egg) laid the first chicken egg. In this case the chicken came before the chicken egg. Again, this would not necessarily be a straightforward event.

So any of these can be correct. Personally I like number 1 best :)
