Infinity Ward Leaves Activision!

wait does that mean activison blizzard owns COD and not infinity ward? well that sounds like the end of them, unless they can make a reallllllllllllllllllllllly good game. EA is just loving this I bet

Miss leading title.

Here is what the article says:

NEW YORK – Activision says Jason West and Vince Zampella, executives at "Call of Duty" developer Infinity Ward, are no longer with the company.

Zampella had served as CEO at Infinity Ward and West as chief technology officer, among other titles.

Activision Blizzard Inc. said Tuesday it plans to form a new business unit focused on the "Call of Duty" franchise. It says the unit will focus on online content and expanding the brand.

The shake-up comes a day after Activision said it was looking into breaches of contract and insubordination by two senior employees at Infinity Ward.

Activision did not name West and Zampella in Monday's regulatory filing. But the filing said the company expects the "departure of key personnel" as a result.

Two execs left the company. IW is still Activision's property.

They didn't leave. They got fired. >.>

Well I haven't seen fired yet, but...yeah...they probably got canned.

I frankly like Tim Schafer's take on this situation:

"Getting mad at Activision for this kind of thing is like getting mad at an ape for throwing feces," said Schafer. "It's just how the beast communicates."

IPs are almost always owned by the publisher. Harmonix did not take the Guitar Hero series with them when they split Activision, for example.

fired means they can't work at the same place. leaving means they can come back but have to work in the work force again. Don't ask how i know i just know these things for some reason.

ehh...no...well kind of.

Fired means well fired.

Leaving means either a polite way of saying fired or that they have resigned/quit/retired.

Also to add to this thread. The ousted heads of IW have filed suit with Activision.

at a store sometimes the manager will say either you're fired or you quit....i would rather quit so it doesn't hurt me when i get my next job.....

So can this in anyway affect future DLC from releasing or being delayed?

I only just found out today from my friend. That means no more good call of duty games =(

I'll need to recheck my source of information for this, but IW was forced into making MW2, then Activision took all of their money from it, and the whoevers at IW didn't like that, so they did something which i forgot and got fired. Now I believe they're bringing it to court.

Or they settled it over cookies. I can't remember.

Yeah, IW did not want to make Modern Warfare 2 but they were forced into it by Activision and West and Zampella, the ones who got fired from IW are claiming that Activision did not pay them proper royalties over the game.

Which wouldn't surprise me at all.
But you have to understand Activision's POV as well, IW wasn't exactly the easiest company to work with. They've been releasing less-than charming press releases in which they can be quite harsh toward Activision and they apparently have had this pretty one-sided flamewar going on with Treyarch as well.

But, out of spite I'm siding with the dynamic duo on this one because I hate Activision. Hopefully they will (won't) win the court case and win the rights to the MW-franchise and they'll bury it. That'll teach Bobby Kotick.
