Apple iPhone 2G

Hey, so I'm looking at getting an iPhone...however I am cheap so I decided to get an old 2G (Original) iPhone. Now, I've heard that you can't get a Data Plan for these. This basically means that you can't go to the App Store and get stuff and you can't sruf the web.

Is this true? Can I Jailbreak and Unlock it so I can get it on Virgin Mobile?

Any other info regarding this stuff, Jailbreaking or Unlocking 2G iPhones let me know please.

I'm not sure where you heard that you're not able to get a Data plan for the 1st gen iPhone, but that is not true. However, if you would like to use an iPhone with a different provider (GSM) it is very easy to Jailbreak (enables the use of Cydia & Installer) and Unlock. If you choose to Unlock, you can still upgrade to the newest firmware 3.1.3, you will just have to downgrade the baseband before Unlocking.

I've Unlocked my 1st Gen iPhone many times and tbh, i'd rather just Jailbreak it and have a Data plan with AT&T.

2G is just a type of network. It's a bit slower than 3G but eh, personally, I don't really care. They both seem slow to me lol. And of course you can get data. I don't see why not.

Even if you have no data plan, you can just use wifi to get onto the app store.

And it's cheaper to use no data plan, and turning off 3g, Bluetooth, and wifi, saves a lot of battery

Jailbreaking may VOID your Warranty, but Cydia is by far better than the App Store. The BIGBOSS repository alone is worth it. Jailbreaking is very easy and straight forward. I have Jailbroke/Unlocked many iPhones for myself and friends, and I have had 0 issues. If you use AT&T as your provider and choose to Jailbreak, make sure you uncheck "activate phone", only leave checked if you use another provider other than AT&T.

Your provider can not and will not terminate your service as a result of Jailbreaking your phone. Jailbreaking would be considered hardware related (even though it is a software process), therefore has nothing to do with your cell service.

Incorrect. The iPhone known as the 2G is the 1st Gen iPhone. The 2nd Gen iPhone is the 3G, named after the 3G service from AT&T.

dude providers cant terminate ur service just for the fact that the phone is yours... as long as u pay ur bill on time ur good .....u could have the 2g with the 3.xx os but still will only give u edge signal on the first gen iphones .... jailbreaking is the only way to go with iphone since apple only want it their way...

I jailbroke my ipod touch, and didnt really find it all that great. It just lagged my ipod more than anything.

If your found to be jailbreaking, which apple doesnt support, you can find yourself locked out of the app store, safari, itunes store, and several other apps. And your provider can cancel your phone server

I've never noticed or had lag issues with any Jailbroken device. Also, of all 4 of my Jailbroken iTouch's and 3 Jailbroken/Unlocked iPhones, I have never been locked out of the App Store, Safari, iTunes or anything else for that matter. As for canceling my service for Jailbreaking, i'd like to see them try, considering Jailbreaking has nothing to do with your cell provider.

If any of the above has happened to you iSimon, i'm sorry to hear that. Maybe Jailbreaking isn't for you.

Even if jailbreaking the iphone in the United States does not violate your terms of service, AT&T is most definitely able to cancel your service if you break the terms of your contract, and no amount of timely bill paying protects you from that.

dude i have a iphone with att and one with tmobile they both jailbroken and unlocked and theres no bug on the app store they work on both networks and no they cant cut ur service cuz otherwise they lose money and a costumer so they wont do that ... if u know people that have that problem theres hundreds of forums , blogs and such that have alot of simple tutorials ... maybe u should take a look at them....
