Physical Copy vs Steam Copy

Hey BFBC2 division,

I managed to find a nice $80 gift card to EB Games and headed out and bought myself the limited edition (all they had) of Bad Company 2. What I'm wondering is if I can just type the CD key into Steam and have the game downloaded/managed by Steam instead of installing off the disc. Would this be at all beneficial or possible? (I still haven't opened it yet so I can return it and just purchase it through Steam if need be). (And if I'm being completely stupid, some of you may feel like :chair:, just let me know :) )

Nope. To use steam you have to buy from steam or have one of the few retail games that allow you to type the code into steam. Unfortunately BF:BC2 isn't one of those games.
 
What he said ^.^, although I prefer the steam version due to auto-updating, the steam community, the overlay, download anytime you want as many times you want, can't lose or damage the disc, etc. But they don't have the LE anymore, and if you have a gift card then why not a disc copy? :)
 
Well... What you could always do is install with the disc (faster install), and then add it to steam under a non-steam game and then you can have your friends list an stuff open during it!
It will be like you bought it off steam with out the long dload!

I think I'll just return the game (don't reeeeally need the LE anyways) and get it through Steam. (And hey, it's $10 cheaper anyways). I think I'll save the gift card for Madden NFL 10! :D

Limited Edition is the same price as Regular....

The $10 difference has nothing to do with LE.
 
The bad part of having the Steam version is that patches and such come out later for Steam then the actual disc copies. I have the Steam version and I know you can install the EA Version from their site with your Steam key. I did that for that last patch cause I wanted to see if it would fix my game, but I didnt like the EA installer so I deleted it and reinstalled the Steam version.

I got a $100 gift card to EB Games for christmas and just got around to spending it now. But yeah, EB Games is definitely the best place in Canada to get them. (I think they're owned by GameStop because their website redirects to gamestop.ca).

Like I said, if I didn't have the gift card, I would've just purchased it on Steam.

No, so far as far as I know the patches have come out simultaneously, or at least close enough together that I haven't noticed :P.

And as to adding it to your steam games list, yes it'll be just like having it off steam! Except for the infinite downloads to any computer without having to worry about breaking or scratching or losing the disc or CD Key or anything like that.

I didn't knew you could return PC games ? They won't give your money back, I think ?
 
You get 10 installs with hard copy version.
Which is awesome since I didnt expect any considering EA's track record.

I prefer hard copy to steam.
Its like people with books, sometimes being able to hold just has a better feeling.

But hey, its your decision: hope they let you return it for full price.
GS is awful about that.

That last patch that was supposed to fix the all the server issues came out a day or two later for Steam users. Something about they had to get it approved through Steam, then the Dice guy screwed something up. Not sure if that is always the case though, I never really compared Steam versions to other ones till now so you might be right.
