Ventrilo not responding

Hi guys, I have a problem with Vent. I kept looking for a solution but found nothing. I have the latest version of Vent with Windows 7 on a 64bits OS.

I use PTT Mode, when I press the assigned key Vent freeze and I get the "Not Responding" message. I tried several key they all do the same thing. It does it if Im online or if I use the TEST button in setup.

I turned off the Firewall and UAC. I tried to uninstall and reinstall Vent. I also tried to install a 32bits version. It's always the same thing. As soon as I hit the key, Vent freeze. :facewall:

I first thought it might be a connection issue, like if Vent was blocked by Windows. But the reception functions are working. When I'm on a channel I can hear everybody talk. So that would make no sense, right?

Anybody had this issue or would have an idea on what to look for?

Thanks!

So nobody as an idea or experienced it? I also exposed my problem in the Ventrilo forums and apparently it is a known issue. Some random Windows 7 will have this lag issue. The best answer I got was: it's going to be fix someday.

Hi MadMartigan,

This thread wasn't posted under sub-category "Tech Help" so I didn't see it.
I'll be more than glad to assist you!

Please allow me a few moments to research.

Edit: Can you please list your keyboard whether your keyboard is wireless or not. If it is wireless, please list your manufacturer. This might sound dumb, but some keyboards interfere with PTT Mode in Windows 7, regardless if you're using anything else for the input key like the wheel button on your mouse, etc. Thanks!

Edit2: Wait a second, you installed a 32x application on a 64x OS?

Did you try to run it as administrator?

It is a standard Dell keyboard and mouse. Vent stop responding if I use the mouse as well. Also, I tried without PTT and I have the same problem. So it might be safe to say it is probably not a key binding issue.

Well yes. And it worked for what it matter. It was only a test. Now I have uninstalled it and reinstalled the 64x version.

My account is admin. Is it enough? Or there is some "sudo" magic that can now be done in Windows?

Also, I know my mic is alright since Windows applications (like voice recognition) are working. The monitor option in Ventrilo setup is also working.

Thanks for the help!:)

UAC is the "top-dog" in this sense.

When UAC is on and you try to install/run something that can make "big" changes , Windows switches to what's called "Secure Desktop".(The window that says "blahblah.exe is trying 2 install a virus on u noob, do u allow?")
Examples of this would be a Firewall, modifying Windows's Firewall, an AVS, and so forth.

So UAC stretches beyond regards to whether your account is an admin or not, hence Music's run as administrator command.

Try running Ventrilo as an admin, see if it helps.
However, I do not need to run Vent as admin for this to work, but everyone's computer is different.

In case it doesn't, after you uninstalled the 32bit version, did you wipe your registry of any entries that came from the 32bit version of Vent?

Broken/false/improper registry entries lead to common problems with programs.
