RAID Question

i bought 3 hard drives yesterday there are SAMSUNG SPINPOINT F3's and i am going to put them into RAID 0 (yes i know all about raid now hush) quick qestion do i need to connect the hard drives together for them to be working together or do i just need to hook em up via SATA?

Pretty sure you just connect them to the motherboard, and when you turn on the raid settings in the bios it takes care of it.

Don't expect any performance or reliability with an onboard RAID controller, especially if this is a desktop motherboard. Get yourself a dedicated RAID card and run RAID 5 with those three drives.

wait, you would rather him spend more on the raid controller than all 3 of his hdd's combined?

This would make sense if you wanted 100% reliability, but come on, hes going with raid0... It doesn't matter

also depends on what he's planning on using the drives for, if the OS is going on them or not.

As far as raid 0 not likely to tell much difference between on-board and hardware unless you really pushing the envelope, like SSDs.

If he's planning on having the OS on there, I can't remember the last time anyone ever recommended a raid 5 for system, usually they say nay. 5 is good for storage, with the slower write speeds I can't imagine that being fun as a OS drive.
