Between Your Health And The Game, which one?

Alright, i will make this Thread as simple as it can be.

Firstly, members after members grow and the compete against your hlstats with others grew more, you tend to sit down at the computer for more than at least 2 hours, than maybe you wish to extend about 1 more hour, that makes it 3 hours, than another, and another, and another, and another... you end up having 8 hours staring at the computer screen.

Now, don't get me wrong ladies and gentlemen, i'm not saying that one should literally play a maximum of 1 hour gaming (i mean what can you get in 1 hour of gaming?),but if it affects your health, you really should take at least a day off from gaming. There are a couple of signs that tells you that your eyes are getting tired, thus, you need rest.

1st sign/symptoms - Maybe after 2 hours of gaming, you tend to rub your eyes, they felt itchy(unless a dust particle enters than you rub, thats totally fine, normal human reaction)

2nd sign/symptom - Tend to get dizzy, you started to feel like the room your in, is like spinning.

3rd sign/symptoms - Migraine. At this stage, if you still continue to play on the computer, your asking for it. At this stage, you should immediately take a break and call it off a day from gaming.

In between times, lets say when you enter to your 1st hour of gaming, why don't you simply tell any admin in game that you need a break from gaming , so that you can rest your eyes, and simply set your gaming status (e.g. Dods) to spectate(that is if the servers are not full), and try to look at tree outside your window, or something that relax the eye for at least 15 mins, than you continue to dods-ing, it doesn't really hurt alot by just looking at a relaxing scenery . That ends everything, i simply have to apologize if my English isn't up to standards here, In Singapore, We Asian speak English, Our way. XD

Remember, Health Comes First.
:)

Ive never gotten headaches from gaming no matter how long I played...But I have gotten my eyes itchy and had to keep rubbing them =S Nice thread and your English is fine

Haha, hmm ok , i guess my english is fine after all.. hehe,thanks...hmm as for the itch at your eyes, try not to rub them, you end up making them red and might even get sore. haha so yea... (:

DoD:S is a great game that actually tends to be not as stressful as others on the visual system. With the deaths and respawn time varying anywhere from instant to 10 seconds it makes it easy to look around (relaxing your focusing system) and give your eyes a break. The 20/20 rule is a great one to remember for any near work (whether it's reading, pc use, or gaming): for every 20 minutes of near work, take a 20 second break to look up and around and focus on something that isn't up close to you.

Nothing wrong with promoting a little health education for our wonderful gaming community!

I tend to get migraines alot. But i get that through my genetics. But to get rid of them i take some ibuprophen and then play my guitar for a while. Some people would think playing the guitar would make it worse but for myself it's very soothing.

Hmm... In that case, i shouldn't be worried about our members and other gamers health then (:

@ Hero93i don't really think playing guitar would makes it worst, depends on each individual. Just like what you said, you find it soothing (:

@ (IO SA) it's kinda true about a little health education to the gaming community (:

Anyone would suggest to sticky this up at the normal forums? Also, i'm planning to write in a second thread, this time, regarding gamers when they get stressed up over their hlxstats. There's even at one point where one of the gamers lost about 25 points over a new player who entered and is like totally complaining about it. Telling that he/she needs to hunt at least about 10-20 other men to get back the 25 points. From My point of view, player seems ok at least just complain, but looking deeper inside, you never know if they are actually smashing their keyboards up or screaming over it. Sounds funny but, yea, face it, i have my younger brother screaming and fighting over a certain game after losing so much points for that game. (not to mention punching my favourite monitor at end up spoiling it)

But anyways, a note to all , i will be busy within this 2 weeks(though i still have time for gaming maybe weekends? =) ) , having doctor's lecture. hmm.. =/ stresss!

Nice thread Doc.

All sitting and no cardiovascular exercise makes for a chubby gamer.

between my job and hobbies and gaming have wrist pain anyway but that doesnt stop me from playing the dod...btw your english is better then most americans including mine.

Well I agree as I do usually but at the same time I have had two Doctor's tell me to keep playing as it keep's the brain active and reduces the risk of dementia, and at my age you have to do something, no point in giving up on live when there is such a lot of people to kill in DOD.S. In between playing I renovate my house, take the wife shopping, all this help's to keep me going. I have noticed that some player's lose their cool at time's so I think they may play to long. LOL

I dont get headaches because i rarely do extended gaming sessions. I know how long i should be on, and when i feel likes its been too long, i get off.

Simple as that

I can't actually remember the last time I've had a migraine. Whenever I get any of those symptoms I run my ass to the bathroom and pop some Asprin.

I figured it out, Dr Valentine has a DoD Position of 397; if she can get the rest of us to quit playing, she can improve her score even more. Don't get sucked in... LOL

After close to 10,000 hours of gaming, my eyes are hardened ocular MACHINES and my body suffers none of the symptoms listed here. At this point, my eyes and mind begin to suffer after long stretches of not playing video games. The only treatment is a couple hours of fragging. Just thought I'd share: it can go both ways!

@chulai knight : Err, opps? shouldn't have displayed my signature . hehehe, just joking, nah, not quite, it's just that i'm concern about our gaming members and other non members too. That's about everything though..

@ronpaul: ok, your health behavioural is completely the other way round. haha, come to SIngapore, you will be my health specimen. XD No offence though.

It is a great post Dr., your concern is well taken. I think everyone, at times, gets so involved in the game we loose track of time; and the symptoms you described are very familiar. Keep up the good work.
My Daughter-in-law is from Hue, Vietnam, we tease like this all of the time.

Careful, I'm quite sure that rp is desperate enough to take you up on that?

:p

Oh well, gaming never actually had any effect on me unless I've been sitting around for 5 hours straight.

But I also have to pee like every 30-40 min... Should give me enough breaks :D

Otherwise, good thread! Bet alot of people don't think about how much a 10min or 15min break can do. Sure does help me focus better when returning to the game after a break like dinner or a toilet run.
