Problems with Redirection and SVCHOST.EXE

After I stupidly downloaded a virus that posed as an anti-virus I have been having some trouble. I think I removed the virus, but I have problems with redirection. When I click on Google links I get redirected to random advertising websites. And I've also had some AVG pop-ups about SCVHOST.EXE, but non of the virus scans I've tried so far have picked up anything.

Here is a Hijack log.

Thank you for the help in advance. I have serious security concerns about this.

Please add me on STEAM, it'd be a lot quicker then posting here:

What's this? I've never heard of it before.

Comodo is the best free firewall program out there. I installed it after I started having problems to ensure that I never get infected again. A bit too late :(

Problem has been resolved, from what Altec told me.

Thanks for giving me some work. :)

What was the culprit? Always good to post the solution so a random Google searcher can be helped as well (assuming the forum boreds are open to view to public :P I don't look in the eGo forums not logged in :D)

Not so fast partner. :P

What ever it is it's a persistent little bugger. The problem was momentarily solved, but today it's back.

Does anyone know how to read a Hijack log? And does anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this?

Some of the things in that log you posted are worrisome.

Try using http://hjt.networktechs.com/

Here are the main problems I'm seeing:

When a file is missing, you should always have HijackThis fix the item.

Only a CWS variant has been known to use this.

We've pegged the problem, Searchcentrix. Here's how to remove it:

http://www.2-spyware.com/remove-searchcentrix.html

Follow the manual steps on this site, then follow with a scan with Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware.

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Then post as to the situation afterwards. Once it's fixed, I'll help set up your PC to help prevent another infection.

I will try your solution out in about 30 minutes when I finish my HW. Hopefully it will help.

EDIT: I tried following the remove search centrix instructions, but none of the files were in registry and known of the processes were running.

Still have you tried to remove it from your computer? Also, try doing this in safe mode as well.

Did you run Malwarebyte's Anti-malware?

There are tools I can give you to help prevent it from happening again that actively BLOCK malware/spyware sites known for spreading files, and block ads and things they lead to.

Two are Spywareblaster and Spybot. You can use them to immunize your PC.

The third is a program I use, which replaces and updates the hosts file, but it is for advanced users. If you want that, I suggest you add me on Steam so I can walk you through the basic set-up. It's not complex, but it needs to be tweaked so you don't block something you want.
