Help ??

so so i was just playing bc2 today n my comp just shut down when i turned it back on it said something about my overclocking and that i can reset it or something . so i just saved it as is then re turn on my comp n it said my cpu was over temp so iono whats wrong and i was wondering what i should do . so im not computer techy and my friend helped me on the comp build so he set up all the bios stuff .

p.s. if i want to upgrade to an i5 would this be good enough for my case or would i have to get a new one ??

Ask your friend to raise your voltages, or slow down your overclock a bit. It might have shut down from a lack of voltages or overheating so either one of those might help.

The i5 and Antec 300 will work fine, my i7 is sitting in my 300 running fine.

I agree with the statement about voltages, it sounds like the cpu shut down from not having enough power.

May need to bring the whole setup down a little.....

Wait, your cpu was over heating? I say just clear your CMOS and run your CPU at stock. If it says your computer is over heating, why would you want to raise the voltages?

its at stock right now im guessing it was like at 110 C or for my CPU TEMP n it just shut my whole computer down i dink my standard is cpu speed is 2.5 n i dink b4 my friend overclocked it to like 2.7 + but its at 2.5 now so iono

Not very well, apparently. 2.5 to 2.7 shouldn't raise temps like that.

Stock cooler and bad overclocking, your lucky your CPU didn't fry @ 110c.

Yeah, and your computer will turn off automatically when either your CPU, MOBO, NB, or SB get too hot. The values which are located in your BIOS

well i think it only does this when i play bc2 n i guess when it lags to much on the server my temp raises but i guess for now ill just not play bc2 for a while n just wait til my friend help me lower it or something . THANK FOR THE ADVISE

Hey Dudes, the Q8xxx are tougher to overclock than the Q9xxx and i-series processors. BFBC2 is VERY CPU dependent. I posted in a thread about it somewhere... anyways with an i7 at stock 2.66 to 3.7ghz , you gain about 40 fps, thats a lot of frames. If you did want to go with an i5, you would need a new board, and then new RAM. I use the Antec 300 for my work rig and love it. If you have a Microcenter close to home, you could get an i7 930, X58 board, and 6 gigs of ram for around $550. Going with an 1156 socket such as the i3, i5, or i7 860 would save you cash - about $100 on the board and maybe another $40 on the RAM. Use default BIOS settings til you can get an aftermarket cooler on either way.
