The Lion King...underappreciated?

Story: Yep, it's Sherlock Holmes.
Review: A couple of weeks ago a friend and I were sitting around, drinking beer, talking about whatever came to mind. When I ask: "Wasn't there a Disney movie about a mouse who was basically Sherlock Holmes? I remember seeing a movie like that, but I can't really remember it." His response was something like "Holy crap, I remember that." and then we hunted the movie down on Ebay and watched it. Needless to say the conversations that go on between my friends and I are pretty weird.
Anyway this isn't one of Disney's best animated features. The film was obvious written specifically for kid, which usual for most of Disney films of this time. The animation is pretty nice and the voice acting is alright. If you're interested in seeing an obscure Disney film, then this one is it.

Story: Iron Man is back and better than ever...or not.
Review: Marvel I get it, The Avengers is your cash cow and it's looking like it's going to be a big cash cow. One issue though, could you maybe not obtrusively push that into your other movies. I mean it was pretty cool when it was at the end of the movie...but now The Avengers is a major subplot of this film. So please...for me, stop.
Anyway I saw Iron Man 2 at a midnight showing last night and it was just ok, not great, but ok. I really had high hopes for this film, but there is a lot wrong with this story. Now, I'm not going to spoil anything, so here is whats what. The entire center of the film is dead, that's right a doldrums and beginning is not really all that well written. Nothing really picks up until the last 45 min. Other than the story, the film is pretty to look at and the acting is pretty good. Great performance from Rockwell, who nail his character perfectly. Rourke was pretty good also, but Robert Downey Jr. was just alright...not terrible, but not his best either.
I was really looking forward to this one. I felt that the first Iron Man was a great film and one that I liked a whole lot better than The Dark Knight. So it sucks to do this....

Oh, and don't bother staying till after the credits. It's basically a commercial reminding you to see the Thor movie next summer.

Title: Spider-Man

Story: A strangely constructed metaphor for puberty.
Review: Oh, Spider-Man the bane of my existence. I was born the unfortunate last name of Parker, so I went through most of my early teens being called Peter Parker...which left lasting psychological damage. But the review must go on.
This is one of the films that help to reboot the whole superhero/comic book genre, which had up until the beginning of the last decade...had been pretty much dead. X-Men and this movie showed that these types of films had massive Box Office potential.
Spider-Man was indeed a surprisingly good movie. With great performances and a well written script. Raimi did a spectacular job in the directors chair and it would be hard to imagine a Spider-Man film without him. Definitely worth checking out.

Story: Bruce Campbell ruins Spider-Man's life
Review: Well done sequel that manages to surpass the original is just about every way. It's highly entertaining and with great action to boot. The plot follows Peter Parker, as he has to learn how to balance living a double life and having to take down his mentor who has been driven mad. Was widely considered the best superhero movie when it came out...and still holds the title in my opinion.

Story: Look at me, I'm being edgy.
Review: I got suckered into watching this by a friend who said it would open my eyes...and the first two parts almost did, while the third part force me to turn off the movie. Now to clarify my above state of "almost did", I mean it can be eye opening up until you do a little research behind the film.
It's split into three parts, the first dealing with Christianity. The second dealing with the world economy and the third has to do with the truthers...or 9/11 conspiracy bs. The best I can say about this is that it's a well put together documentary, but as far as I can tell maybe 5-6% of it is actually true.

Haha I was told to watch Zeitgeist as well by a friend. This friend is very easily influences by teachers and authority figures and she watched it in one of her classes.
I turned it off during part II. Anyone with any knowledge of economics can easily tell that it's all bs.

Title: What the Bleep Do We Know!?

Story: You know you're in trouble when a documentary claims to be about physics...but doesn't actually interview any physicists.
Review: The title of the film, much like everything else about this movie, is infuriating. It's a movie that fancies itself as Morpheus from the Matrix, desperately attempting to open pry open your third eye. They want you to awaken to the spiritual world around you and they're going to use Quantum Physics to aid their efforts.
The issue is...they're not really using Quantum Physics nor any science at all. This is part of one of those new age movements that attempt to combine science with spirituality to create something that is a bastardized version of both. I'm saddened that this film has garnished a substantial following of people who actually believe what this film says. >.<

Story: There can be only one!
Review: Entertaining cult classic from the 80s that managed to launch one of the worst franchises around...though I can't speak from experience, since I've only seen this one. The film is about small group of people who are born immortal and can only be killed by decapitation. The film does a good job jumping back on forth between time periods. It's not the best film out there, but still one that is worth watching.

Story: Peter Parker's poetry is as dark as his soul. Yeah, he's emo in this one.
Review: There are a lot of problems with this one. To many bad guys, the relationships are all forced...oh, and there is a massive chunk of the film that is just embarrassing to watch. I think the main problem with this was that there were just to many cooks in the kitchen and it spoiled the pot...and by pot I mean movie.

Story: Why Paul Verhoeven, why? You were so much better than this.
Review: For those of you who aren't familiar with Verhoeven, allow me to name a few of his films: Robocop, Total Recall, Starship Troopers and Basic Instinct...those aren't counting his amazing filmography from the Netherlands. So when I see this film, I just shake my head and wonder how in the hell could such a talented director direct this pile of crap.
To be fair, this does fall into the so bad it's good category and it's an unintentionally funny movie. So if you're going to see it, gather a group of friends and some booze and watch it.

Story: Would you like to know more?
Review: Verhoeven specialty is to take films that technically shouldn't work and make them work. This one is no different, the script is about as cheesy as they come...but it works, really well. The acting is what you would expect from its cast. Though standout performances from the always awesome Michael Ironside and from Neil Patrick Harris who does a good job with his character. The plot is actually akin to a WWII film, but in space and with bugs instead of Nazis. This is a highly entertaining film and one that is very watchable.

Story: The greatest rock documentary ever.
Review: A group of filmmakers follow around the Rolling Stones during their 1969 tour. The tour ends at the now infamous Altamont Free Concert where a member of the Hells Angles stabs a man to death when he pulls a gun...it's all caught on video. This is a spectacular documentary and it's one that captures what most considered the death of the 60s. I definitely recommend watching this, for both it's historical significance and for the quality of the film making.

Story: Deadly Brazilian spider terrorizes a small American town.
Review: I basically grew up in Florida where finding a spider in your house is not uncommon. So when I saw this as a kid it freaked me out, like no other film out there. I couldn't make it through the film for like the longest time, I would just freak out and turn it off. Two years ago I finally decided to watch it again and holy crap, this is a great film. I'm a big fan of the horror-comedy genre and this is a great entry into that genre.

Title: Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead

Story: We follow Rosencrantz and Guildenstern as they discuss philosophy, logic and inconsistencies of their own reality.
Review: If you haven't read or seen Hamlet, then this movie probably isn't for you. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are characters from the Shakespearean play Hamlet, they are the friends of Hamlet who betray him. In this film though, they are subject to forces to are beyond their control that force them into the situations that are seen in the play Hamlet. The word play in this film is actually well written or the play that it's based on is well written. One issue though, the film really doesn't work well as a film. I mean I can see it working as a play, but the material just isn't suitable for film. Still I guess it's only way to see this material...so yeah.
