AM2 CPU on AM2+ Socket?

Motherboards that accept AM2+ chips will also accept AM2 chips.

This is the motherboard you suggested: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128376

In "CPU Type" it says: Phenom FX, Phenom, Athlon 64 FX, Athlon 64 X2

There's your answer. :)

EDIT: one of the reviewers also said that this motherboard got a bios update, and it now supports the Phenom II chips. That includes the Phenom II X6 Thuban chips that just came out. This motherboard is quite futureproof.

If i am not mistaken AM2 + means it will work with AM2 and AM3 CPU's . But im not an AMD kinda guy, lets see what others have to say...

Would be awesome:) But why did they made AM3 sockets then?

You are right dbee.

They made AM3 because it supports DDR3 memory, which AM2 (AM2+) does not.

An AM3 CPU (Phenom II, Athlon II) will work in an AM2+ board, but an AM2+ CPU won't work in an AM3 board, because those CPU's don't support DDR3.

Always read what your motherboard supports its the easiest way to go about it

:OOO oke, thank you:)

And does all AM2+ sockets support all AM3 CPU's?

And what you guys think of this motherboard: http://www.alternate.nl/html/produc...ARDWARE&l1=Moederborden&l2=AMD&l3=Socket+AM2+
GigaByte MA770-UD3

It depends on the motherboard generally, but I have yet to come across an AM2+ board that didn't support an AM3 CPU. Also, keep in mind some CPU's are 125 watts but some boards only support up to 95 watts, so check their website for the CPU support list.

That board is decent, if the one you have now is working fine, then upgrading to that wouldn't really be worth it.

Be sure to do all your homework Blackbird. That board is an excellent board for the money. Bought a friend of mine that exact one along with the Phenom II X3 720 BE and he's currently at 3.7 . Rock solid using the CM V8 . Need a cheap cooler ? Consider a Coolermaster Hyper 212 + . Around $30 and keeps my i3 at 4 ghz really cool at mid 30's idle and 55-60c loaded. All in all, excellent value when going AMD.

Thanks dbee. I just bought a nice cooler for $30. But im not planing a new CPU jet, dont have the money for it.

I just buy the board and put my old AM2 CPU on it:)

You prob wondering why i dont keep my current motherboard.
Well becaus my current mobo is uATX, a bit small for a Sapphire HD 4870 1GB. Its burning my internet card just under it and its burning my stata cables.:P

Lol ouch burning your internet card? That aint cool. What cooler/board did you decide on ?
