Oh and on a side note, Guillermo del Toro is no longer doing The Hobbit.

The two I would suggest watching are Hard Core Logo(as previously mentioned) and Highway 61, which is probably his best known film up here, north of the 49th.

I don't have one. I've seen to many that I like to try and figure out my favorite. Also best is a little to subjective and difficult to quantify...sooo...here is one of the best I've seen.

Story: A child murderer is loose on the streets of Berlin. As the body count raises the police of Berlin step up their patrols. Everyone is fine with this response except the criminals of Berlin who are inadvertently being harassed due to the actions of the child murderer. So the criminals of Berlin band together to accomplish something that the police could not...they're going to try to capture the child murderer.

Review: This is without a doubt one of the best films ever made and no that is not an over statement. Here is the thing, in 1931 talkies(film with sound) was still in its infancy and to tell the truth most were gimmicky and terrible. M was the pretty much the only talkie of this era that was not only good, but a damn masterpiece.

Story: "I kick a** for the lord."

Review: Yes, you read the above correctly this movie is directed Peter "Lord of the Rings" Jackson. Before Jackson did middle-earth he directed horror movies and Dead Alive was his best one. Also his goriest, this is easily the goriest film that I've ever seen. If your a fan of horror films, then you owe yourself to see this movie.

Oh boy Dead Alive, that movie just gets weirder and weirder as it goes on....and the deaths just get more gruesome. Oh another very bloody movie, Planet Terror (or the whole grindhouse)

Story: "Do you pick your feet in Poughkeepsie?"

Review: In this exciting crime drama we follow New York police detective "Popeye" Doyle as he attempts to stop a major heroin deal. Believe it or not this one is based on a true story and comically enough even the detectives that the film is based have small cameos. It a gritty tale and one that definitely feels like it was out of the 70s. There is also a great car chase scene that is still considered one of the best. If you get the chance watch this one.

Story: Hellboy takes on Erzsebet Ondrushko.

Review: This is a surprisingly well done animated film that manages to strike a pretty good balance with the tone of the films and the tone of the comics. The big issue though is that this was done for Cartoon Network and the themes/violence that is found in the Hellboy series had to be curtailed a because of the target audience. Also at times there is a strong Scooby-Doo vibe going on with the film. Still though, it's still an entertaining attempt at adapting the Hellboy comic.

Story: Indiana is back and this time with more racism.

Review: I can see what Spielberg and company were going for...and for the most part the film works really well. The one issue with the film is that it portrays the people of India as backasswards blood lusting savages, which isn't an exactly faltering image. Now in defense of of the filmmakers the film is dealing with the Thuggee cult, who were the embodiment of all those adjectives listed above. None the less this is still a fun film...you know...despite the racism.

Story: Two deranged people feed off the others paranoia.

Review: Do you know what I hate? I hate it when a trailer for a movie completely misrepresents the film. Bug was billed as a intense horror movie experience that will have you at the edge of your seat. In reality, Bug is a smartly written dark-comedy about crazy people who are seeing imaginary bugs...that's it. I'm not spoiling anything either, the film lets you know whats going on pretty quickly.

The movie is based on a off-Broadway play and it shows in the films setting. A large portion of this movie takes place in a motel room and it does a pretty good job with the limited setting. The acting is all around really good and the chemistry between Judd and Shannon is believable enough to make this film work. So, if you want to see an off beat, dark...and I mean dark...comedy then give this one a try.
