heyia im working on a community site for a few friends that i play with and wouldn't mind some input on it.

the layout is mostly done im still need to do a bit more css for the forums section and am writing some code to directly query the stats page instead of displaying with a fuggly iframe. and am also working on a way to integrate steam community user info with it but that is not done either.

but any suggestions would be welcomed and features or layout/style suggestions.

just a l4d gaming community that a few friends are trying to get off the ground, thev just been useing a forums system for a while and wanted a full scale website so i started working on this a few days ago
 
Try to eliminate some of that "white-space" (the HUGE gap under the content) There is a rather large opening between the content and your footer, consider putting some Flash Animation in there, or something to make the site a bit more "lively" I do like the header image though ;P And you did a good job making the colors flow in a pattern, (The Grey-Black-Grey). Anyway, its pretty good, i like it :)

hmm most of that white space is caused by the sidebar having a larger height than the rest of the page which is only really a problem on the homepage right now since in the other pages there is much more content. but I could add a faded design or something to cover that area when there is too much extra space there.

but thanks for compliment on the colour scheme i started with the layout and banner and mostly pulled shades of colours from the banner for site colours.

but the white space issue i have in a few spots mostly just due to dynamic content in places. like the footer, when there lots of people on-line it looks normal but when there only 1 or 2 it looks weird with a big gap between on-line users and the footer text.

Yeah, other then that there is nothing that i see that should be changed really. :)

kinda the site is based off of drupal which is a extensible very customizable content management system which has a pretty bare bones forums in it also

so i took that and added quite a few features to it to make the forums more on par with full forums system, im actually still writing some modules for it so a few things aren't there yet.
 
drupal isnt good tbh.

thats all i can complain about

i prefer it and it's what i know how to develop modules for and it is stable and secure.

and i am just for learning purposes making a cms system with php and jquery

and the main things drupal falls short in is things like themes, and not haveing a client WYSIWYG editor which i coded and put in my self

and joomla has crap permissions and is hard to get a decent highly integrated forums system going on it, in my eyes joomla is only good for ease of use for the administrators and moderators which is not too much of an issue since i streamlined a lot of the back and admin stuff.

but i rather have a steeper learning curve and more flexibility anyways.

and i found joomla very limiting when it comes to some of the future features im going to put it

no actually its a screenshot of his site.
I just happen to view things at 1920x1200 because of my 26" monitor.
 
Alright, i think it's pretty clear that he needs to get rid of the open space, well fill it

the open space dostn matter since that is the new/home page and when the site is done and starts getting used there will be actual news there.

the transparent background with image is kinda cool but i don't really see it and too usable I want the text to be easy on the eyes but for more visual interest i may get rid of the image and border in the header and put a background images in of it that just fades to the normal background colour as you scroll down.
