Title: Planet Terror

Story: It's like a cheap horror movie...only with a really large budget.

Review: I remember seeing Grindhouse with my brother and being almost the only ones in the theater. The film apparently flopped pretty hard core, but that was expected. They released a 3 hour, ultra-violent double feature on Easter weekend...seriously...I mean come on.

The film is basically a zombie movie that has a lot of action and also a lot of cheese. It's obviously a horror comedy and a good entry into one of my favorite sub-genres.

Speaking of Romero...he really needs to stop making films. He should of stopped after Day of the Dead.

i agree with you on that, zombie films need a good couple of years off

especially after that horrible, unspeakable stab to the back called day of the dead with nick cannon, Bad actor is BAD

Story: ?This car is 100% death proof, but to get the benefit of it, honey, you really need to be sittin? in my seat!?

Review: Tarantino has a gift for writing amazing dialog and I'm pretty much always excited to see one of his films. So after sitting through Planet Terror and all those fake trailers, I was pretty stoked to see this film. What I got was a film that featured a group of girls who just sat around and talked...about nothing. That's right, these ladies had absolutly nothing to say and they talk a lot. So far...not good. Then Kurt Russell shows up and the film shifts gears. I wont spoil anything, but we are introduced to another group of women who are far more interesting then the first. Which of course means that the film gets better after the introduction of Kurt Russell.

So the question is: Is this film worth watching even though the first part of the film is dreadfully boring?

Yes.

Title: The Time Machine

Director: Simon Wells/Gore Verbinski

Story: A man from Victoria era England builds a time machine and travels forward in time.

Review: Considering the final product it's hard to imagine that this film would have ever seemed like a good idea. But here is the thing, all the ingredients are there to make a great adaption. Simon Wells is the Great-Grandson of H.G. Wells and had previously directed the successful Prince of Egypt. The film starred Guy Pearce, who is an amazing actor and grossly under appreciated. Ehh...damn...that's all I can of going in the films favor.

What the film turned out to be was a contrived and logically inept love story. One that manages to neuter the social message of Wells' novel. Now you might be asking yourself, what did the replace that social message with? CGI...or and action, you see the final chunk of the film wasn't shot by Simon Wells, it was shot by Gore Verbinski...you know the Pirates of the Caribbean guy. Verbinski direction drastically changes to the tone of the film and further hurts the film. The films one saving grace is Pearce's performance...which is all thing considered...pretty good.

More like a Decade or two off. The genre is getting a little to stale.

I still need to see the Day of the Dead remake...from what I've hear it's really really bad.

Title: Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation
Year: 2004

Director: Phil Tippett

Story: A sequel in name only.

Review: Remember the movie The Thing, it was really good right? It managed to pull off a feeling of claustrophobia and paranoia in a way that few films have managed to match. Well that's what this film is going for and it doesn't pull it off. Everything about this movie is done poorly and if it weren't the "sequel" to Starship Troopers, I would have forgotten about this film by now. But it is the so called "sequel" to Starship Troopers and thus I haven't forgotten about this one. This is the kind of film that I probably will never forget...just because of how terrible it was and how dissatisfied I felt after watching it.
