So a couple nights ago i was on one of our servers, there was only me for a bit messing around with weapons (whats the best rocket for players?) someone got on and we were going at it 1v1. we agreed tanks were cheap at that point and weren't using them. another player hoped on and immediately started blowing the snot out of the 1 defender. i explained it wasn't really fair and asked that he not use the tanks, he was cool with that and we played for a bit. at one point we managed to get 6 players, and it was also agreed that no tanks was appropriate.

My question is whether or not i have the right to dictate to other players "server rules" like no tanks or maybe if it comes up things like no sniping or whatever. just whatever the handful of players agree on. not saying i would hop in and start telling people what they can and cant do. but if everyone wants to not use tanks cause there's only a handful of us on, but one player wont listen and ruins the fun for others by being "unfair"

so is it ok if i use my admin powers to keep a server fun by enforcing rules that the majority of the other players want enforced? if one player is ruining it, would it be appropriate to kick him if he chooses to not listen to me and continues to use tanks or maybe snipes (or whatever the other players don't want)

I don't want to overstep my bounds. But i do feel that i did the right thing. My job is to keep punks out, and if one player is ruining the fun, and wont listen to pleas to be fair, a kick is appropriate. I can always state the reason, and that they can come back if they play fair.

Yeah id have to say your right altec, ill be sure to do that next time. im not sure if this can be moved by an admin. i would do it myself but im on my way out.

No. In fact, it is illegal according to EA's ToS agreement for the servers. We can't establish official rules that prevent players from doing certain things allowed in the game mode, like using tanks. You can say "hey bro, using a tank with 5 other people is kind of cheap, ya know?" and try to convince them not to use it, but you can't use your admin to kick him out of the server for using the tank. the tank is fair game at all times.

Nicely put ginger, this applies to all games that eGO supports as well. A player can use any weapon or item that they want, regardless of how many people are on.

Wow i did not know that, where did you read that at ginger? mind sending me a link as that would be useful info. but i honestly don't see how that is right, seeing if ego owns a server they should be able to dictate server rules, and if not then by definition our event servers break these rules? might be different as we all agree on the game play as we enter and its not public. but but also by definition that means the same agreement is made when pugs join our servers.

part of it is because the soldiers are ranked so we can't affect people's ability to get gold stars and points and such. i originally heard it from leadership and then read it somewhere but i don't remember where.

kk ty ginger, maybe leadership will chime in and pass that link along.

im just so use to DOD:s :)

You can't enforce or create "rules" but you could kindly ask other players to "try" not to use them. If you want to fill up a semi-empty server, try not to "abuse" the more powerful weapons like the Gustav, not until there's more people.

well it has always kind of been like that with bf games because your server has to follow certain rules by EA because it is ranked....now if you go unranked and you own the server you have free range to do w/e you want. I just know this because i used to be in a different clan several years ago with bf2 and EA threatened to strip our server of the ranking system because once a week for like 3 hours it was a privet server used for like a knife fighting and or other special events usually tied to only using certain weapons and they never took it off the ranked status during those times and EA thought they were stat padding which in some ways it kinda did because people gained mass amounts of like knife kills in a short period of time either way after that they just started taking ranked off while they did special things
