FBG Shut down

Hey! I just read from FBG homepage that FBG might be shut down in next three weeks. I was just wondering could eGO get its sponsors maybe support FBG or something, because it would really be shame that nice site like that to go down because lack of money. You can also share your feelings about that here.

I don't understand what FBG's costs are. Servers are getting pretty cheap. Seems like they could manage it all from one machine.

They are collecting hundreds of different types of stats on tens of thousands of players across thousands of servers at one time.

Its not very simple.

FBG needs hardworking servers to keep and transmit as well as calculate the data. I read the entire article (in about 40 minutes) and they have a brand new design for FBG they want to release. This will be an updated FBG for the new CS:S, new website design, all new...well everything. Their ideas are great, but they do not have the money to run what they need to. As there are so many people using their system, they need to pay for maintenance costs, the website and they must of had to raise the bandwidth limit on their site. The amount of information flowing through FBG's servers is phenomenal. I was considering applying for the coding job but it is too much work after looking at everything needed to do, for someone who is a full time student.

If anyone has any ideas at all on how to help FBG out then pitch them out, we need to save FBG, a great idea like theirs can not be simply shut down they need help to prosper. I am donating 100 dollars to them right now (i have no clue where i got the money neither). Do what you can to help out.

Could just ask eGO members to donate to make a fund raiser of some sort to help FBG.

Tbh it'd get eGO advertised as well on FBG forums if you guys help to bail them out so to speak. I hardly think they'll just take a large donation without recognizing you.

I don't really mind being noticed or not, but i agree a fundraiser for FBG would be a good idea. I love how they have the stats and the awards, everything about FBG is just awesome in my eyes, so i think they deserve a nice large donation.

To save bandwidth get rid of the forums

If they branched out to different games from the first few years besides counter strike they probably wouldn't be coming to this. 55,000+ css players alone but bring that mod into more source games would easily reach 60k+ and thousands more supporters

I think that one of the many reasons why I play CS:S its because FBG makes it even more competitive among all the players in the eGO servers. So it'll be a shame if we dont do anything to save it. Besides, i think most of the people would agree to make a huge fundraising in order to keep it running. If thats the case you can count with me. (Though im broke at the moment, but ill get some money xDD)

Wowowowow As always Im the last person who knows the news.

"I've talked to Dignity a week or so ago and wasn't able to get back here until after flight testing was done.

Anyways, looks like FBG was a great product built, but there was too much money put into something that didn't make revenue. I'm really impressed by what was created here. Unfortunately, there was little time spent on creating revenue from this and there was a hope to have valve or another corporation sponsor. It was a risk, but like some risks, it didn't work out.

I was going to create a report on how to save this place with recommendations, but as I came back to see the new CSS update, there is no chance. Valve has ignored FBG entirely, taken ideas from them, and implemented them on their own. Since they like to be in full control, they didn't risk sponsorship. In this business, I predicted it from them.

Folks, FBG was dear to n00bsalad's heart. I know many players who enjoyed the product. I know the experience from upper management here, the next time they create a product, they'll implement a plan for revenue as to sustain future great products. Let it be a lesson that cost and revenue go hand in hand. I look back at FBG as a great success. I pity the investors who were looking to get money back and failed to do so. I hope the talent here invests their time in the next product and hopefully gets a solid return if not more. Good luck.
