Changing background on source games?

Title says it all. How can I change my gmod wallpaper?

Looks like youll need to convert an image to a vtf and then place it in the Programfiles/Steam/Steamapps/<UserName>/Garrysmod/Garrysmod/Materials/Console directory, named background01.vtf

What about one that you download from fpsbanana? I've always wanted to change my dods and css backgrounds. I've tried extracting it from winrar to the dod folder like I do all my other skins and mods but I can never get the new background one to work.

You should be able to copy those over to the materials/console directory as long as they are named background_01.vtf. Which one are you trying to use?

You need to use VTF EDIT to save the new background to the directory. And make sure you have the right aspect ratio for the new background. I did it for DOD and it works fine, also might have to mess a little with a text file.
