Golden Wrench destroying for all the right reasons

I think you are missing the point of the exercise. Maybe you should re-read and resubmit your response.

I think it is a great idea! Donated :)

Ummm did you read the article? He said that it brought jealousy and unwanted attention. And do you know how many people play TF2? ALOT! So im sure he got his fair share of spam messages and hate for getting it. I wouldve done the same thing if i were him.

Yes, I have read it. I've read it three times now. Let me try again:

I fully support giving to charity and raising money for charity and other such events.

I don't know what exactly he has gone through and it's easy to say "Whatever, that wouldn't bother me" when I'm not the one going through it.

I still think it's somewhat silly to delete an item because you're being nagged about it, although I think his deleting his item in conjunction with raising money for a charity is a great idea.

No, I'm trying to troll.

Personally i think this is kind of cool. Charity donation to see 1 out of the 100 golden wrenches destroyed. Crazyness.

I hope I'm not the only one to appreciate the irony of the Curse of the Golden Wrench. All the mentions about King Midas in the promo materials almost seems to set up the fact that having the wrench is just as much a curse as turning everything you love into "worthless" gold after a simple, silly, touch.

I'd be interested to see a comparison of the total money earned between:

1) Donate for a 1-in-20 chance of seeing me destroy my wrench!

and...

2) Ebay: proceeds go to Child's Play, winner gets Golden Wrench when trades are enabled.

Of course, #2 depends on Valve actually getting around to actually implementing trades, which seems to have disappeared.

the fact that the server wasn't vac secure, yet he got vac banned is stunning.

Thanks for linking the article, some great reading there.

Are you talking about DrunkenF00l? The ban wasn't automated; it was applied by Robin (who also gave Drunken his home phone number afterwards to talk to him about it). IRC chat log is somewhere, will find it. Maybe.

[...]I'm a major troll who loves Whisker Biscuit.

Im thinking of donating.

Everyone should destroy their wrenchs, it kinda would show a mutiny towards valve for making such a rediculous item.
