How many times do I have to say that I was shooting a very very light round. As I said 4 or 5 times before, It only takes 3 mph of wind to throw that round off six inches. The fact that I hit a 300 yard target, WITH wind, on my FIRST time picking up a REAL sniper rifle, is an achievement in and of itself.

I do watch that show sometimes, Its very interesting. As for the sharpshooter title, I dont need luck. I already hold the title.

The reason that sniper rifle doesnt have as much kick as other sniper rifles is mostly due to the weight of the rifle itself. The size of the bullet doesnt produce enough recoil to move the weight of the gun as much as you would think.

I dont really consider myself to have that much talent when it comes to shooting rifles. But considering my first time picking up a real gun and hitting a 300 yard target with wind and a very small round, I have to be good to a degree right? I also think the fact that I was in ROTC and I was on the rifle team the discipline and all the practice i had carries over to shooting other rifles. Marines are very good marksmen themselves. In WWII they were killing Germans at 800 yards with an M1 Garand with Iron sights.
 
ive been firing guns since i was like 4

.22s are probably the most fun because anyone can pick one up and hit a target

they have nearly no recoil (ive only fired one 22 that the recoil actually suprised me; it was one of my dads friends little 5 shot revolver that felt like a toy but kicked like a mule)

and you can fire them all day for around 15 bucks
 
my pappaw has both an M1 garand, that is his issued to him in korea and its big brother the M14.

Sligh differences as the M1 fires 30.06 and its big brother fires a .308.....

Those are rifles to fire my friend, heavy as _____________(insert funny heavy item) but accurate to a pin, if you can hold your breath and squeeze -- gun nuts know what that means.

oh - and i'm sad at you for firing a glock. Sinse it was your first expirence i'll let you off. I've seen glocks lead to near deaths far to many times because they are poorly constructed. NOW - this IS NOT POOR MAINTENCE, mind you - it contributed but the gun was as clean as the bounty guys counters and very high dollar ammo in the mag(s)...

for example, two weeks ago i watch a glock (i didn't hear wich particular gun over my booming M4 aimpoint i was reaking havok with) with a 6 round mag fail/jam 3 times.

now heres why this was dang near a deadly expirence.::

In most guns, the safe ones that is - the magizene extence out of the grip 1/8th inch or so. this is NOT tacky. I'll say why shortly.

This glock was "smooth" meaning, its mag fit in flush, the bottom of the mag was flush with the bottom of the grip. when the gun jamed (the first time) it was the second round, the slide was locked all the way back. Standard procedure here is to drop the mag. In this case, the release was a small button that took three engineers (including myself) to find and then once hit did nothign but release the catch on the mag.

if your told to "Drop the mag on the alaby" and have nothing to grab onto to pull it out with, what the hell do you do?. LUCKILY, we were able to rack the slide and kick the STILL LIVE round out. Now - this process had to be repeated two more times.

This gun has been dismantled, framed, and permently discharged from use. (i'm Air Force and my friend(s) {2 of them} are state troupers -- we're technical.) Everyone in attendance and knowing of us has sold any glock they owned. This saddened me as i though "glock" was a real name in pistols.


POINT OF STORY:

Yes. Cleaning your gun is I-M-P-O-R-T-A-N-T.

Yes. Gun saftey is BEYOND important.

NO. owning a glock (in my opinion and expirence) is not safe.

remember, always listen to your range officer and your saftey officer. If you hear call of an alaby --- CLEAR THE RANGE AFTER YOU HAVE DISCHARGED ALL YOUR ROUNDS. Nothing is worse than having life rounds in a weapon you are holding while working on another.

Thats weird Glocks are usually very reliable handguns from what I hear. Alot of police forces use the Glock and its variations.

You also said the mag was flush with the grip. The one I shot it had about a quarter of an inch of the mag still showing when the clip was in and it fired like a charm. So that leads me to think that guys glock was either old and not taken care of very well. Or he got a cheap brand of it.

My cousin cleaned the glock out before we fired it and he takes good care of it, so there was little to no chance of it jamming on us.

Overall I loved the feel of the gun, and firing it was very fun. My only complaints about it are, it has a small clip(about 4 or 5 rounds) and there wasnt a safety on my cousins glock. I dont know if all glocks are like that but my cousins Glock .45 didnt have a safety.

And safety is high on my list when firing any type of projectile. No one wants to be hit by the very bullet they were trying to shoot. But luckily my cousin and his friend fire and maintain enough guns and have a wide knowledge if them. So they know safety, as do I. I was on the rifle team for my ROTC and my Major emphasized safety over everything else.

Glocks are very safe actually. I own a G22 .40cal. People say they are not safe bc of the lack of a switch safety...but the gun has 2 safeties, 1 being the trigger, and 2 and internal drop safety. The only people who have issues with Glocks are people that dont have common sense when it comes to handling a firearm. Other experiences of course may lead you to think differently but what ive found is its hard to "mess up" with a Glock, that may not be the case for everyone though.

the only reason i see in having a safety on a gun

is so that children dont play with it

but if you have children and own a gun its common sense to teach the kids gun safety at an early age rather than try to hide it

i mean thats just my opinion

I think the Safety is more for transport and storage. Again its just a block to reduce the chance that it will accidentally discharge at a less than appropriate time.

And yes iSimon. Glock FTW

Glocks are good, especially being so cheap, but I just hate that trigger safety. I have had a G19 for quite a few years and I still cannot master that silly trigger pull. Although I have to admit the Glock just works. It gets the job done. Sure, If someone offered to trade me for a 226 or 220 I would say yes in a heart beat. Although I would like to sell it someday for a five seven. Nothing like having the firepower of a 9mm, recoil of a .32 and 20 round mag capacity, without the silly trigger like the XDm.
