Whats up with boyscout?

I have unfortunately been gone for a long time. I miss eGO so much and wish I could be on the forums and the servers. :crying: This is just a little thread to explain why I have been gone and whats up with me.

All summer long I had a 24/7 job at a camp in the woods, thus leaving me with no internet except on some weekends. Then came college. I go to a very strict college and they filter my internet and in doing so block the edgegamers website and the servers as well. The only reason I am writing this now is because I got off campus to a friends house. So for at least the next four school years I will only be on during thanksgiving, Christmas, and spring break

It was kinda cool though, when I got to college and found out that my roommate was in eGO a couple years back! I have convinced him to re-join during thanksgiving break!!

So, wish me luck under these strict college rules, and keep on gaming it up for the best gaming community in the universe!!!

Yea I know how you feel. If i go to the college I want to I will probably have trouble getting onto the website and in game too. But dont worry too much man. eGO isnt going anywhere, anytime soon. We will be here when you get out of college.

There are colleges out there that actually block websites? I am very surprised. I thought that kind of Big Brother stuff only happened in grade school.

What school do you go to? Most of the time, you'll be able to get around the firewall for stuff like this.

Well, I am not going to mention the name because knowing them they would track me down if I mentioned them here But anyway, they use a server side proxy...aka anything that goes to the internet goes through the proxy first. Even a private message on Facebook can be read by them.....which I think might have some issues to do with privacy laws but...... The filter they use is the Bluecoat webfilter. I have put in requests to them to unblock the eGO site, but I have not heard back from them yet. They even block steam...I cannot browse the store or see my online friends at all.

My employer's VPN filter blocks this site because it contains the word "games". However, it does not block Steam because our corporate IT department isn't very bright. So I can play games, I just can't talk about playing games.

I'm going to start referring to the VPN as "Fight Club"

Interesting. I would get not allowing online gaming for bandwidth restrictions (imagine if everyone in a dorm was playing their 360s/PS3s online...no speed for anyone!) but to limit the WEBSITES you go to? That's a bit rough. In K-12 you need a filter, in an office they need to maintain productivity, but home and college ought to be filter-less.

With any luck, you can live off campus and pay for your own internet . Good luck with the studying though!

What you need to do is VPN into another place. Then your data is encrypted and they have no clue where it is going!

i haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate VPN....actually my school faisl even hardcorer they have a VPN that is not compatible with 64 bit windows...but using it is pointless because they have an open wireless "guest" internet that is just as fast it requires you to enter a email adress to log in....but if you hit enter without IT STILL CONNECTS.....yup my school fails at net maintenance

Barracuda SUCKS. Like, it is too good. And it doesn't let anything through.

Anyways, we all hope to see you back around on the site...maybe that request'll go through.

By the way, last time I checked, you can use Steam and all @ Harvard...maybe consider a move. Nah, thats my dream, not yours.
