Item Drop System

Hi folks,

So, all excited about the new items and playing a lot more than normal, I was getting drops here and there and then suddenly, nothing. I've now played for probably 10 hours the last 2 days without a single drop, so I went searching for an answer and found it.

Apparently the current drop system limits the player to around 10 item drops per week, and once you get 10 drops, you can play all you want and you won't get another until the week resets. The week resets on Wednesdays around 5PM, and extra play time can roll over to the next week, which also explains why you'll log in and get hit with like 3 or 4 items all at once after a reset.

So, with the above in mind, I checked my backpack and sure enough, I have received *exactly* 10 item drops, and nothing since that 10th, which seems to confirm the above. Because I played alot the last 2 days with no drops, I'm assuming that my first server activity after the reset tonight will probably hit me with several drops all at once, so I'm eager to see if that happens, confirming the above drop system description.

I'm also curious if anyone else has exerienced this, or have they got more than their 10 items in a single week which would naturally go against the system as described.

If the drop system does work this way, I guess that means there is no point to idling, as you won't ever get more than the 10 drops.

Or, maybe you just don't play a lot and idle while playing....I don't know...

HALO REACH

...I love my games....ooh! I just realized I've been procrastinating on a Science project for 2 hours!

I haven't found anything since Thursday, waiting for the item cap to reset.

Nope. As soon as an item drops it determines the amount of game time required before another drop. My best guess is ~45min. Extra time in a week just doesn't count for items.

Quoth tf2wiki.net: the item cap resets at Wednesdays at 5:00 p.m. pacific standard time. this test was expiremented and needs more input.

Not too long ago, it said that the reset was thursday. Was recently updated to "not sure".

Technically, you can drops at "regular intervals", with a max of 56 items a week, if you're really really lucky (cap is 8 a day). However, I've seen the same person on our servers get 3 drops every night (2-3 hour span), while I've been playing (and being a dirty idler, but more playing than idling) for many hours a day/night for the last 4 days and found nothing. It's very flawed. It feels like it's still the old system.

EDIT: Maybe I'm unlucky. Even as a dirty idler with the old system I didn't find as much as I rightfully (wrongfully?) should have

Jayflip. I think you're seriously confused about how it works. It's a weekly cap on how many items you get. The reason a player can get 3 items in a night is because they didn't reach their weekly cap as early as you did.

The number gets reset on Wednesday. If I don't play until Saturday, then I can get all my drops then and make everyone who got their drops on Thursday feel bad about themselves. This isn't a complicated system, and you're trying to confuse yourself.

When you idle and don't get anything, it's because you've already reached your weekly quota.

I found 2 items before I stopped finding things. A crate and a holy mackeral, then done. Nothing filled cap before that, because I hadn't played tf2 in the 2 weeks prior.
