I was going over some footage from this past storm chasing season (2010). For those of you who don't know, I do chase storms for TornadoVideos.net. (The owner of TVN is named Reed Timmer, he's on the TV series Storm Chasers, which by the way the new season starts Wednesday!!!)

I was going over some film from a chase I went on on April 22nd, south of Childress, Texas, 10 miles SE of Cee Vee Texas. I found out that I caught an EF-3 tornado on film. Now, to put this in perspective, it was 975 YARDS wide. And I was around 2 miles away from it. At the time of the video, I was experiencing 55 MPH inflow winds, which is suggestive of a POWERFUL supercell and a powerful tornado.

Here is a image cap I got from my video as lightning struck behind the beast

This is one of the largest tornado's I've caught on film. The other largest one was on February 10th, 2009. The Lone Grove Oklahoma tornado, which killed 9. To people who live in Tornado ally, PLEASE listen to tornado sirens. You have NO CLUE how many people whos homes have been completely demolished I've heard say "We just thought it was another test" or "We are used to them going off, we thought it just was a false alarm". Take them seriously.

You've got balls. wouldn't catch me chasing a tornado, you'd see the tornado chasing me.

I respect those who do this for recreation/professionally as I love these type of videos, as long as no one gets injured/killed.

Oh sweet, that's pretty damn epic!
(Britain gets ALOT of tornadoes, apparently more than any country in the world I hear. But they're generally only mild so don't appear on news)

Dunno where you heard that, but the US has the most tornado's every year, averaging around 1,200 per year.

I live in Kansas but personally have never seen a tornado (thankfully), have had to take cover at least ~3-4 times a year though.

Pretty awesome shots.

My dad had a tornado literally on top of him like 30 years ago, literally 2 days after he got his new mustang. He was driving it down an empty highway or w/e and noticed it was impossible to control the car all of sudden and he checked his rear-view mirror and saw a huge cloud right on top of him, spinning and turning like crazy...

That's the story he told me at least. Not sure if it's true.

Would be scary. Wonder how he didn't hear anything? Loud music? Haha. Knowing him, that wouldn't be much of a surprise.
