Recently I've been looking at numerous sites for a new computer and have even been considering building a brand new computer and get back into the gaming world and have some more fun with eGO. I found a great site called iBUYPOWER and have heard great reviews on their computers. The total of this being $100 cheaper than the parts I want to get to build a computer, it might work. I showed it to my dad to give him a thought and said it was something to look into. Here are the specs that I selected and I hope you guys can tell me if this is a good choice.

  • Intel? Core™ i5 655K Processor (2x 3.20GHz/4MB L3 Cache)
    Unlocked Multiplier/ Overclock-Friendly Processor
  • Liquid CPU Cooling System [SOCKET-1156]
    [Free Upgrade] Standard 120mm Fan
  • 4 GB [2 GB X2] DDR3-1333 Memory Module
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 - 1GB - EVGA Superclocked - Core: 763MHz Single Card
  • ASUS P7H55 -- Intel H55 Express Chipset w/ 8-ch HD Audio, Dual-Channel DDR3, Gb LAN, S-ATA, USB 2.0, 1x PCI-E 2.0 x16

    FREE with purchase of any motherboard w/o USB 3.0 Interface
  • 700 Watt -- Standard

I would read ratings for ibuypower. i had a friend who bought from them and had nothing but problems... I also had another friend who bought two computers from them with no problem. I guess its hit or miss. Although I would say this: you will save a considerable amount of money building your own pc. If anything I would first attempt that (read online guides, there are multiple publications on how to do it as well ... above all, I find building your own PC to be more satisfying)

On the second note: Microcenter is selling the i7 930 for $199.99 (i got this back during the summer, it was cheap then, and is cheap now!)

But, even if building it is $100 more expensive, it would be worth it. Not only do you get the experience, but your warranties will last longer than 1 year, like the iBUYPOWER computers.
 
What he said. The experience is everything, something breaks down and you don't need to send it back. If you have a problem with a build of your own, come on down here. Tons of knowledgeable folks willing to help you out as well as anywhere else online.

comparable systems that were listed on the side from what i built was about $500 more.

warranty? most of those places require you to send back the rig. be without my computer for a month? no thanks.

I think you misunderstood what I said.
I am 100% for building his own computer, even if it would be a little more expensive. Plus, on top of that, each part gets it's own warranty, and most are longer than the 1 year that iBUYPOWER provides.

I haven't priced out the build yet, though. So for all I know it would be $500 less, although that's really steep unless you have a super epic deal with Intel/AMD/Nvidia.

Do you know if the friend who had problems went with the Specialized Shipping for the unit? If they didn't, something could've gotten hit on the inside of the case and gotten damaged or broken.
 
Also, unless you pay for a specific powersupply, it will most likely be a generic OEM PSU that isn't all that great. Same with the HDD.

oem PSUs while not amazing are usually good.

IBP, sadly, doesn't use OEM PSUs, they use CRAP xion units.

If you must order from IBP, make sure to upgrade to a well known PSU brand
