I've just made a map that is kinda useless but, oh well! I didn't know what to name it but I was thinking of the clan then so i named fun_edgegamersmap :P. I don't know if i should take some screen shots or not, I don't even know how to put the screen shots in. Sooooooo...... yeah.......

Screenshots would help. To take a screenshot, load up the map in-game, then press F5. Your pictures will be saved in Steam\Steamapps\*USERNAME*\Counter-Strike Source\Cstrike\Screenshots .

What he said.

Then, if you're unsure as to how to actually upload them into the forums, click the little "Insert Image" button (the little colorful one) and enter a direct link for the picture.

The way I do this is by uploading the picture to my Photobucket album, copying the direct link, and pasting it. But there are other ways.

Hope it helps. Can't wait to see some pics up. :]

my screen shots aren't coming to my folder..... should i put it in something else and and try show it?

i think i know how now, one of you give me your email and i can email to you. Or we just go with out pics :P

What do you mean by "not going in"? As in, when you press F5 in game, the screenshots don't appear in the screensho folder?

wait.... I don't have paint on this computer. I'll have to make another one on the pc my brother goes on. So I think we should just close the thread

XpresS, are you using a Mac?

Just curious. If you are, I believe the bindings are a bit different for taking screenshots. Not sure, though.

To check if it's even bound to a key, go to your options and click on the keyboard tab while in CS:S. Scroll down the list until you find something titled "Take Screenshot" and see what key it was assigned. If it's not assigned to one, assign it to f5. That key should be at the top of your keyboard, and it should be the sixth one in from the left. Not sure about Mac keyboards, though.

Now, go ingame, take your screenshots with that button at key points in the map that should be highlighted. Only take about 5 of these.

Upload them to http://www.imageshack.us/ - This site will not delete your pictures unless they break the rules, which basically is nothing obscene like nudity, which would break the eGO rules anyways so you wouldn't be able to post it without getting in trouble. However, it's a pain to find them again if you accidentally lose the link, in this case, you should probably make an account on there as well if you're worried about that.

Then, copy the link to the album, or go into each picture and copy the forum thumbnail links and paste them on the forums in the original post by editing the post and right clicking the editable section on your screen and clicking "paste," but make sure it's at the bottom of the text. After you've pasted all the links in, erase your comment about not being sure about how to post the screenshots and you're good to go and can click Apply Changes/Accept Changes or w/e it has.

Hope that helps you. ^^

Okay, so I don't really know what this is. What is the objective?

Also, there are some major things you should work on. For one, this map is fullbright. What I mean, is that you have no light entities in it. You should always have a light_environment in the map, and from there you can add light entities. It will make the map look way better overall, and it's better to learn it now.

Also, you should try to use different textures for the walls, floor and ceiling. Think of a real life room, would it be all the same colors/textures?

That's about it for me. Also, is this your first map? If so, I gotta say you're doing better than me and my first map. Keep on trying, practice makes perfect!

do you really think i should do something with the lighting... because i tried that and everything went dark....... and for the walls i just got a block and made it hollow :P. I was being lazy

You really should do things with the lighting. Once you've put a light_environment, it all goes black. That's supposed to happen. Now you have to start putting out light entities. Don't spam them though, and don't place them right next to the ground/wall/ceiling.

Put as many as you think is right, really. But the map shouldn't be overlighted, that looks just stupid.

lol Nokz calm down xD
Its only like a prototype at least he's trying. I couldn't make an empty room X_X

If your just learning to map, lighting isn't absolutely needed, but if you start getting better, correct lighting is a must.

Some good tutorials for all types/skills of mappers:

I started mapping from philip's tutorials. He's very descriptive and shows you exactly what you need to do.

I just found out about his YouTube channel a few months ago. He also has some basic tutorials, but I like him for his advanced tutorials. He shows some stuff that no other mapping tutorials have ever made.
