There is an alternate method for people with no money:

Alternate Entry: To manually enter the Sweepstakes, each eligible entrant must print his or her name, address, city, state, country, postal code, email address, Steam account name, and telephone number, as well as the name of the Treasure Hunt objective that the entry is for, on a self-addressed 4x6 note card and mail the completed form to: Valve Corporation, P.O. Box 1688, Bellevue, WA 98009-1688. Note cards mailed in envelopes will not be accepted. No e-mailed or faxed alternate entries are eligible. Facsimiles, photocopies or mechanical reproductions of entries will be void. An alternate entry must be postmarked during the applicable Treasure Hunt period to be eligible. To be eligible for the Grand Prize Drawing, an alternative entrant must have entered at least 10 Treasure Hunt objective drawings and then provide an additional alternative entry for the Grand Prize Drawing, postmarked December 20, 2010. Alternate entries received after December 31, 2010 will not be eligible for any Sweepstakes. Each user may submit one alternative entry per Treasure Hunt objective. Proof of sending or submitting an alternate entry is not proof of receipt of such alternate entry.

I actually have like 200 games in my steam library thanks to my game fanatic dad who i share this account with kinda, I only bought the indie music pack games... I'm bound to get the super hat :)
 
I want games soooo bad...but I have to wait until Christmas...damn it.

Well I think their strategy is really brilliant. They've found a way to get money from a game which is a few years old without isolating those who do not wish to pay any more. I think it's a good system.

Well, I have the first 3 achievements, cant bring myself to pay 33$ for that R.U.S.E game.

Anyone played the Demo for R.U.S.E?

not to mention pushing the sales of others games by rewarding tf2 members for buying other peoples games (in which they get a cut off of as well being bought through steam) lol

I would say they are very brilliant indeed XD least they aren't douches about making money O.o like infinity ward "hey were gonna ad like 2 maps we made to be released with the game but decided it would be a much better idea to wait a couple months and be like "oh sorry you have to pay 15 bucks for something we put little effort into....lawl tats right EAT IT YOU FOOLS EAT IT WE SHALTH TAKE UR MINDS WIF COD 4EVERZ"
 
Naku, i find valve to be 100X more money sucking than IW, IW makes quality once and a while for like 10$

5 hat=lazy

15 hat= Try hard

28 hat= 'that guy who wasted all his money on Tf2 hats'
 
I will take whatever hat comes out of it - but i doubt i'll be purchasing any more games. Valve sure knows how to win, win, win, no matter what. ;)
 
This is the best sale Steam has had in years. I have 3 achievements so far. I wonder how the hats will look like.
