how to get people to listen to u on ego servers when the r swareing

1st, please be more describing whenever you post a thread...

heres the solution: Hop on vent and find an admin which can help you, or add me on steam: panzer1509

Yeah, it might not be the most 'grown up' thing to do, but it is the mature thing to do. Come get one of us admins, msg us, any eG or eGO on steam or vent.

As an 'e' your role is not to admin. If you see somebody swearing in the eGO servers and there is no admin then I would advise you to add admins to steam friends and ask them to come in.

People have asked me several times to admin a situation and I do so everytime.

+10

As a fellow e, I know the frustration of it when there's people in a server disobeying rules while no admins are around. Sometimes, if it's not too bad of infractions, I'll just tell them to calm down and respect the rules. If no one listens, it takes like 10 seconds to hop into Ventrillo and talk to an admin. If that doesn't work, add some eG's or eGO's onto your Steam friends, and message them if needed.

I don't normally play DOD:S but I have the game and can drop the hammer if need be.

Don't forget the shoutbox on the forum if all else fails.

I'm not trying to sound like mr. 'Oh look at me I'm an admin!', but...

In a nutshell, you are not an admin. it isn't your duty to enforce rules yet. your trying to prove your mature & devoted through various means to obtain admin, basically.

What you CAN and SHOULD do is have some eG's or eGO's on your steam friends list for quick contact, just in case there are some jerks running a muck in the servers. To be rather blunt, doing that would also be a good way to be recognized as a member who gives a crap about what is going down in the servers (shows devotion).

Even if you are an e there is no harm in politely reminding pubbers of the rules when rules are broken. But anything further than a gentle reminder should be left up to eG's and eGO's.

Like the others have said, get fellow admins on your friends list and install ventrilo so you can get help when/if you need it.

As stated in several posts you are not yet an admin. You are however a member of our community and are entitled to remind other players that we try to keep things nice for little kids. Just as Blue Stealth pointed out.

So here is my recommendation:

Press the tab key to bring up the score board and look to see if there are any eGO's or eG's on the server.
If there is send a message in admin chat. Something along the lines of { u@profanity in use please help. } without the fancy brackets. You will not be able to see this but all admins on the server will.

You may use your mic or keyboard to say, "Please don't use bad language here." or "Hey, my kids sisters listening, can you keep it clean please?" They don't know if you have a kid sister or not. The important thing is to keep your tone calm and friendly. Some people, when they think they have been challenged, will behave even worse; just to show how manly (read stupid) they are. Don't try this more than once as then all the players with a nasty bent will join in. Now some admin has a lot of work to do and the game is disrupted. Not good.

If the problem persists, and you have friends who are admins on steam, message them on steam. If not, leave the server, get on vent or post in the shoutbox, and ask for help. Remember to say what server the problem is on. If you don't have vent get it. There are directions on the forums.

In summary: Keep it calm and friendly. Whiney or pompous just stirs them up.

Well when admins aren't on ;)

There are some admins that don't do anything as well, they just play. From what i heard, it's fine if an e wants to warn somebody :P

if any of you run into this happening please drop box it and/or let an advisor know. An admin intentionally not adminning rule infractions is not acceptable.

e's can try to help calm down the situation and warn players

In my nutshell e's can only warn = part admining but you know cant kick or warn.

If a player knows an e is incapable of doing anything they sometimes don't listen to them. (a lot of pubs are aware). instead they usually taunt the e regarding his inability to really do anything(Except summoning some admin to help). Thus, adding more annoyance to the player already being disruptive/abusive, degrading a member and more than likely making it frustrating for the member. -(That being the reason this thread was started)

But, it is always nice & polite to try.. Just throwing this all out there. I've seen and heard of complaints regarding what I wrote above Many times.

If a player is causing problems, why would he/she think a non admin can quell him/her, regardless of them being a member? They know the e can't.. You know what I mean? If they're that bothersome they won't care.

I'd just stay quiet and get an admin in, especially if the dude was being a jerk after being warned, adminship or not. If you have a decent amount of admins on your friends list then its quite easy to dispatch a trouble maker. I do it with O's, and did it when I was an e.

hi no 1 listens 2 me on ego servers when disobeying the rules

help

Lots of great suggestions already, but let me also add my 2 cents'.

We've already agreed that e's can help contribute (albeit in a limited fashion) to keeping our servers clean. I've seen several e's have lots of success with this, and some other other e's have, well, not so much luck.

The difference I've seen is in the delivery of the e's message. To illustrate my point, please direct your attention to the following 2 examples --

Example A
Player A: Too many *****ing campers!
=(e)= Joe Schmoe: language.
Player A: Whatever. You're not even an admin, why should I listen to you?
<Player A then continues cursing>

Example B
Player A: Too many *****ing campers!
=(e)= Joe Schmoe (over the mic): Whoa there, might want to be careful with the language, you could get kicked for swearing in here...
Player A: Oh ok my bad, I forgot about eGO server rules.
<Player A lives happily ever after>

I think the different 'delivery' approaches above are self-explanatory. Of course there are many other scenarios and pubs that won't respond positively regardless of how you communicate with them. But just food for thought.
