Blindy's Recruiting guide!

My steps to getting recruits:

I will go over each step thoroughly after explaining my key points.

1) Play on our servers
2) Get to know the regulars that play on our servers.
3) Talk to them while your in game.
4) Congratulate players when they receive an achievement.
5) Congratulate players who get a nice nade kill(s) or anything of that sort.
6) Be FRIENDLY.
7) Have fun!

Play On Our Servers

You need to play on our servers so you can get to know the regulars that play on our servers. You need to be there and help assist the public players in any way you can. Be there for the players.

Get to know the regulars

Interacting with the regulars is a good thing because they need to know that you show interest in them. They need to know that they are doing a good job and are always welcomed on our servers with open arms. They need to know that they are a good addition to our servers

Talking to them while in game

Take the time to talk to the players in game, get to know them, and interact with them. Get them on your steam friends, invite them to play with you on our other servers. Make their time on eGO servers as enjoyable as possible.

Congratulate players on receiving achievements through steam

A lot of members in eGO already do this but do your best and congratulate those players who receive achievements through steam on our servers. It makes them feel that they are doing a good job and are thoroughly progressing on our servers and it also makes them come back to our servers every time they launch Day Of Defeat: Source or that specific game that they play.

Congratulate players on getting nice nades

I cannot stress this enough. Make those players that get 2-3 nade kills feel good about themselves. It makes them feel like they are helping the team.

Be Friendly

In eGO, and as a member, we are a family-friendly organization. We have punk free servers and that is what keeps members coming back, but there is also an additional thing that keeps them coming back. Make them feel that eGO is a great server to play on. Make them feel that they are always welcomed on our servers with open arms at any time.

Have fun!

I cannot stress this enough. Our main goal in eGO is to have fun while playing on our servers. Whether your an admin or not, your main goal is to enjoy yourselves while playing on our servers. Make those regulars have a fun and friendly gaming experience. If someone is cussing at them or being disrespectful towards them, take action. Don't let the player disrupt that specific players game play. We want all members to have an enjoyable gaming experience and with players interrupting that, it stops them from coming to our servers because they will think that we allow that type of stuff.

Steps to take

While playing on our servers, take the time as I said above to get to know the members, interact with them, and help them have an enjoyable gaming experience.

Once you've gotten to know them, then proceed and add them to your friends list. Once they've accepted you, talk to them, explain to them what eGO is about and so forth.

Once you've talked and played with them, proceed and ask them if they are interested in becoming a member of eGO.

If they say yes, then walk them through the appropriate steps which I will discuss later in this thread. If they say no, keep them on your friends list and ask them to consider the request.

If the applicant decides to join

If the applicant decides to become a member of eGO. Explain to them what eGO is about, explain our rules and how they can benefit from being a member of eGO.

Once you've explained to them what being apart of eGO means, then continue to help them through the recruitment process.​

I will give you an example of how I do things

Me: Hi, how are you doing?

Potential Recruit: I am pretty good, yourself?

Me: I am doing pretty good, thanks.

Me: I have a quick question for you if you don't mind.

Potential Recruit: Sure, what is it?

Me: I am wondering if you would be interested in becoming a member of eGO. I see that you actively play on our servers and as a recruiter in eGO, I feel that you would be a great addition to our community.

Potential Recruit: Sure, I am interested in joining.

Me: Alright, sounds great. I will walk you through our registration process, the MAUL verification process and your application process.

Me: Go to www.edgegamers.org | Click Register Now and then click create account. Make sure that the user name you choose matches your in game name. Both your forum name and in game name must be exactly the same. Once you've filled out your user name and information, let me know when your at the referred by field.

Potential Recruit: Alright, I am at the referred by field.

Me: In the referred by field, type in Blindy. Then finish the registration page. You will receive an email which instructions on how to activate your account. Let me know when you have activated your account and have logged in.

Potential Recruit: Okay, I am fully registered and logged in. Now what?

Me: Alright, now you will need to get MAUL verified. In order to become MAUL verified, click here. Let me know when you see the steamID box.

Potential Recruit: I see the steamID box.

Me: Okay, in the steamID box, put STEAM_0:1:18030846 and then click submit. Tell me when you've done this.

Potential Recruit: Alright, it says that my steamID has been successfully added to MAUL.

Me: Excellent, now you will need to go into any eGO Day Of Defeat Source server in order to become MAUL verified. In the mean time, I will watch your profile and let you know when you are MAUL verified.

Potential Recruit: I just joined one of eGO's DOD servers.

Me: Alright, you have now been successfully verified and added to the MAUL database. Now, please get out of game and let me know when you are back on the forums.

Potential Recruit: I am back on the forums.

Me: Okay, click here. This will bring you to our recruitment start here thread. In this thread, you will be able to read what eGO is about, and what our rules and standards are for new members. It is highly recommended that you read the rules to make sure that any issues don't occur in the future.

Potential Recruit: Okay, I have read the rules that are in that thread.

Me: Okay, now if you scroll down to the very bottom of that thread, you will see a list of questions from 1-14, copy them. Then you will need to click here. This will link you to where you can post your application. Once you've copied the questions, click that link, and make the title <insert name here>. Then paste the questions and fill them out. Let me know if you have any questions in regards to the format of the application. Then, let me know when your on question #14.

Potential Recruit: Okay, I am on question #14.

Me: Okay, for question #14, put =(eG)=™ Blindy™ and then click submit.

Potential Recruit: Alright, I have successfully submitted my application.

Me: Okay, just hold tight. I need to review your application. This will take a few minutes.

At that time, I put their application under review and make sure that everything is filled in correctly and then once their application is all set, I accept them.

Me: Alright, I have accepted your application and you are now a member of eGO. I would recommend reading my response on your application on how you can get involved within eGO and also see the events that we have on a weekly basis. Now, you will need to right click steam, click settings, click friends and you will see a nick name box. In that box, change your name to =(e)=™ <Insert Name Here>.

Applicant changes name

Me: Welcome to eGO, if you have any questions, don't hesitate on contacting me or any admin. Our admins wear the =(eG)=™ and =(eGO)=™ tags. It is good to have some admins on your friends list in case you encounter any issues or problems on our servers. A great way to reach an admin is to get on ventrilo.

This is a basic guide on recruiting, but a very good one.

Start by going for who ever is having the most fun, try and make conversation with them, and then go with the recruiting basics.

Nothing better than recruiting people who love the game, knowing they'll come back to play with us again.

oh ...i have been doing it wrong the whole time i always wondered why people ran when i tried to recruit them and they cowered in fear when they saw my name
