I've decided its time to upgrade my GPU's with the prices i found on replacements.

Here are my options:

1xGTX 480 - $250

2xGTX 460 - $300

2xGTX 480 - $500

Alright, so here are my options. The two GTX 480 for $500 is soooo temptinggg but it's a lot of money.

The single GTX 480 is an amazing deal for only $250 and will trade blows with the GTX 460 SLI while losing more than winning i believe.

The SLI 460 are just in such a nice sweetspot with performance close to a 5970, but the ones i can get for $300 together are the Gigabyte SOC gauntlet ones :scared: that are overclocked to 817mhz core defualt and will most likely surpass the 5970.

SLI 480, enough said, just seems beastly lol and will give the best performance for whiles to come??? Only thing is it's going to run freaking hot and suck up power like no other.

So give me your opinions. Im leaning towards the single GTX 480, i think it will be enough for me and for $250 its a freaking steal. If anything, when 1-2 yrs rolls by, there will be new cards and maybe it will be time to upgrade again haha. As for now, doesn't seem like there are any games that i will be playing that will need anything more than the GTX 480 and it saves me money :)

i would say get one 480 for now, see how it works, if its going good for u , then definitely get another one while saving up the money, and that way it will work out for u both ways. Good Luck! :)

Really?? idk the performance is there, but i feel like GTX 480 would be good enough for now.

Btw, im only playing on a 1680x1050 resolution :P teehee

Then only get a 480.
If you're going after the most performance you can, then get the 460s. Else get the 470 or 480. I'd personally pick the 470 over the 480.

470's cheapest i can get is like $200-220, might as well pick up with 480 for $250

There was a deal for two GTX 470's for $340 and i wanted that, but the seller never contacted me back and idk wat happaned.

A GTX 470 for 200-220? I'd hop on that like a fat kid to a cupcake!
That'd be boss for your resolution.

hahaha its roughly a 10+ FPS difference between the 470 and 480, i think i'll go with the 480 for like $20 more lol.

at those prices, the 480s are the best deal.

Yup, we'll see how much cash i have in my ATM lol........as for now, im only going for one. But if i decide to splurge at the last moment

Will be getting ridiculous performance and probably won't upgrade for quite a while but will be spending quite a bit of money :(

We'll see what i decide to do, unless someone completely convinces me to get SLI 480's lol

sold em'

Couldn't get surround to work.

Now i have a single 6870

mmmm, you need two of em haha

Im gonna try to see if the guy will give me the 480's for $450 total, if he does, im gonna just splurge on it and keep em for a while, im sure they would last me a good 2 yrs hopefully.

if u have the money go for the ATI 5970

Theyre going for a lot still and i'd have to get one that is guaranteed to overclock high just to get it to perform up to 2x480's

I've looked around and 5970's are going for $520+ and the XFX black editions go for at least $600

GTX 480 SLI gives on average 34% more performance than 5870's crossfire and im guessing that equates to like 45% better than a 5970, maybe more.

If the guy can give me them for $450 im definitely going for two, but even $500 for both isn't a bad deal. Only reason why i might just take 1 is because im going to college soon and it doesn't look like i'll be brining my giant full-tower desktop with me.

Edit: nvm, the dude is trying to squander me out of more money. Im looking at other options now. Maybe some crossfire options from the new 6 series or 5870's, 5970 if its cheap enough.

I did have 2. Surround just refused to work.
