Favorite knife brand?

I hope I am not violating any rules by posting these questions pertaining to knives and if I am feel free to remove my post. I was recently looking for a good folding utility knife, but was hard pressed to find a good one at a low cost. I am looking to spend up to $30ish maybe more depending on the features. I am trying to get around a 3 inch blade, with a thumb stud, liner lock (Not necessarily needed but preferred.) Half smooth Half serrated blade, and a lanyard hole or some sort of hook on the but of the handle.

I have looked at a few Smith and Wesson blades and was wondering if anyone could give me some insight on there quality. If anyone sees a knife that they think is good quality, and of the right price please post!

Cold Steel. They make AMAZING knives. Among that, they also make swords, katanas, etc. (even war shovels!)

They can range from cheap to pretty expensive. Depends on the style and make of the knife.

So far, I bought an ingraved pocket knife ($60), a 12" steel knife ($15), a small butterfly knife ($25), and a double-handed broadsword ($200). They've all lasted me a LONG time, esp. the knives.

That's my suggestion. :3
 
It all depends on what you're talking about. Chef knife? Folding knife? Katanas?

As for folding knife, depends on what you're using it for.

EDIT: Vexx, what model is your Cold Steel balisong? I would never spend only 25 dollars on a balisong, and I wouldn't think that Cold Steel would sell such a cheap knife. Currently, I only have a BM42. Might be buying a BM42a, BM51, BM32-morpho soon,

Also Rathion, S&W is good for knives, but again, it depends on what its for and what type of knief you want.

I've used a lot of Benchmade's before, and those were the only knives I've used with a name on them haha. Loved them.
 
SOG knives are among the best - if you want a knife that will last SOG is a good place to look.

They make a full range of knives, but since you're looking for a folder, take a look at this one:

- don't buy the knives directly from the SOG site; they always ask almost double what anyone else is asking for their stuff :confused1:


Also: Does it have to be a folder? I used to carry those, but have moved on to fixed blades. Unless you're going for something concealable, fixed blades are tougher and can just do more than folders

I only noticed now that you only want to spend 30 bucks. Thus, something cheap but something that is good as a tool, should last if you don't abuse it: Jaguar, Bear, Mtech USA...pretty much anything. Or you can go to your local dealer, even anything in the mall or at a warehouse place (i.e. Costco, Walmart), you can get something cheap.

Keep in mind that I'm assuming you aren't looking at cosmetics but usage. You can easily get what you're looking for for under 30, just don't expect to get a HUGE name. SOG/Kershaw/CRKT/Spyderco could get you something similar to what you need.
 
I've been carrying a Victorinox (Swiss army knife) since I bought it in Zermatt in 1977. That's right my pocket knife is older than more than three quarters of EdgeGamers members. Spend a little more on quality and take a little care with your possessions and they will be useful for a long time. True for a lot more than pocket knives.

Basically this would be a every day carry for general things, opening up packaging, cutting wire here and there, etc.

I am weary of local dealers, last time I went to one, my friend told me he was a reliable guy so I purchased a basic folding knife for a weekend camping trip (I had lost my other knife at the time) and it turned out to be a cheap imported coast knife that lasted a weekend before I had to start messing with screws to prevent any play in the blade, and the handle from falling apart. I have seen many reviews on the SOG flash and am very tempted to purchase that knife, seems very reliable for the price.

Along with the sog flash the Buck Bantam midsize has caught my attention, along with the CRKT drifter. All seem like good knife brands according to the reviews.

Wow at Quaffer's 43 year old knife, that's insane.
I think we need to bow down to this almighty old knife.
