First custom PS3 firmware

What im trying to figure out is what took this guy so long to create it??

Well up until recent, the PS3 was a really secure system and one that it was really difficult to create home-brewed software for. Recently though the PS3 has been so completely violated by hackers that it's now pretty much impossible for Sony lock the system back down. So expect a wave of home-brewed software to hit the PS3 in the coming year.

Well then I cant wait to see what people create w/ the homebrews. 1 of my biggest fears is that we wont be able to get online using the homebrew.

Well, at the moment Sony isn't banning people for Jailbreaking their PS3s, but it's pretty much a given that they'll do it in the future.

Its also pretty much a given that our good hacking community will find a way around that- heck, they've already done it multiple times in regards to the Sony Store thing (for the PSP), so why not on the PS3?

I don't think Sony ever created a banning system for the PSN store on the PSP, it would just try to force you to update to the current OFW before you could use it. Of course this is a console and Sony would do more to protect the system.

Well, it's pretty much impossible to avoid the bans. Just ask anybody whose ballsy enough to Jailbreak their 360, Microsoft bans people in waves every couple of months. Only way to avoid it is to stay offline.

Of course it all depends on how much Sony cares about the Jailbreaking, most people Jailbreak for pirating reasons...which would give Sony more than enough reason to try and counter the Jailbreaking. All they would really need to do is just run a background check on your system to check out the firmware. If it's not official, they ban, if they can't run the check...then they ban. Essentially what Microsoft does.

The only way to avoid being banned would be to trick sony backround checks into thinking the firmware is official, and good luck with that.
